Murphy Scratch my original review: What every other reviewer is saying is true. Horrible connection, constantly dropping connections...this thing sucks. Going to one of the big box stores to buy a D-Link (which I've never had problems with). Thanks belkin for putting out crap! I had actually originally ordered the Belkin Wireless Play Router (F7D4302). After rereading the differences, I figured I could live without the extra "apps" and the USB port. I'm sure I made the correct choice at this point! First about the physical aspects of the router: When I opened the box I was really surprised. The cables are plugged into the router where they should be already. That might not seem like much, but to explain this to my father on the phone for when his shows up, it will be a snap. There was no "manual", but it is included on the cd. I do like that it came preconfigured with WPA2 and a password on a card. There is space to write down your configurations that you set, and it stores in a little pocket under the router. Next the software and firmware: The application on the CD just takes you to the router config (which you can do through a browser if you know the url which ISN'T a 192.168.x.xxx). The tool automatically configures everything, but I suggest setting a password for the router itself. There is also a program it installs, but I haven't had to use it yet. The firmware gives a bevy of options that I got to playing around with. There isn't anything special here to be honest. QoS is set to on, I've yet to decide whether to leave it or not. I don't have voip, but I stream a lot of movies from my own network and also boxee and Zinc. Some of the menu's don't have as many options on the same page as I would prefer which caused me to browse more pages that I thought necessary. Nit picky yes, but I enjoyed the firmware on my Dlink Gaming Router. Finally Performance and Pricing: Let's be real. It's a excellent performing $49 wireless N router. I've yet to see the value add of the "Self healing" application, but overall, for the price, I didn't see a better offering. Performance wise, I used to be able to transfer 10GB + files on my Dlink Gaming Router (g) at about 2-3Mb/s. I get 12-15 with this one. I'm very pleased. Streaming 10GB .mkv's is no issue at all now. Probably my only true gripe, it feels like REALLY cheap plastic. I personally would have paid $10 more to get a metal case like the netgear switches. This could be a heating dissipation issue, I'm not sure, but like I said, it feels amazingly cheap (and light). Don't need the USB, this is your best bet! 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Low signal strength! Sorry that I bought this. By Gail Stay away from this router. Sorry that I bought this from Best Buy. My old G router worked just as well and had more signal strength and a better antennae. I got this to upgrade my old G that was having problems. I use it to stream netflix movies to my home theater. This router is less than 40 feet away on the same floor of an open living space... and doesn't have enough signal to stream movies without hangups and constant re buffering. If I take my Bluray player that this talks to, out of the TV cabinet and point it in almost direct line of site.. than it will work... If you plan on using this to connect PC's etc in other rooms separated by walls, don't bother with this router. I have to return it and invest in something better. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Belkin Surf By Timo Best cheap router I have bought! By dafellows For Christmas, one of the gifts I presented to my wife was a new laptop computer. She loved it, however, after a few days she starting complaining that she really needed access to the internet via her laptop, especially once her classes started back up in January. I started searching for options and didn't care for the wireless on-the-go route. I thought $50 a month coupled with a 2 year contact was too expensive and wouldn't even know if it would solve my issue. Then, I started looking at dual band routers and narrowed it down to two, the Belkin N600 and the Netgear N600. Both were made in China and had about the same features. I ended up going with the Belkin because it was on sale for $10 less than the Netgear. I also liked the the slim design and built in stand, whereas the Netgear had a separate stand if you wanted the item to stand vertical instead of laying horizontal. Once home, the installation was extremely easy and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Upon completion of downloading the latest updates for my wife's laptop, I turned it over to her. She was thrilled and spent the next 3-4 hours on the machine. She never encountered an issue with the connection, and loved being able to access her files and folders from our other desktop computer. The speed at which she was accessing (surfing) the internet was very impressive. We live in a very large house and had no problems with the connection, it performed flawlessly. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and decision to go with the Belkin. It works exactly as advertised and I sincerely believe it is a great dual band router for the money. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Requires frequent reboot By Paul Borghese This router has buggy software requiring frequent rebooting. As an engineer I have a theory as to why this happens. The software contains memory leaks. The router allocates more and more memory without ever releasing the used memory. Over time the router runs out of memory and requires a reboot. Frankly Belkin needs to take time to fix the problem. But instead of fixing the software, Belkin added a setting called "Self Healing". How it works is you specify a time for the router to automatically reboot itself. So my assumptions are Belkin is well aware of the problem but instead if fixing it simply gave us an unacceptable workaround. This is the last Belkin product I will purchase. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Biggest Piece of crap ever By Fed up with belkin So i purchased this router 8 months ago.... Month 1: Took three days and many calls to belkin support to setup, cd setup is a joke. After all the calls, i was only able to get 2.4 Ghz band working but not the 5 Ghz. Being a big reason for buying this, not having the 5Ghz band working was a disapointment. Several power cycles, resets, and reconfigs Month 2: All the previous procedures to get the wireless back up were now not working. So, i made another call to belkin. I was treated like an idiot and was told it was my ISP everytime (which it wasnt). I played around with 64 encryption and got my pc to recognize the 2.4ghz network and was able to get my mac to recognize the 5ghz network on WPA which i was happy about since 64 encryption is lacking in security. Things worked for a week then i had to reset and reconfigure this continued for months untill they finally release a firmware update that addressed the issue somewhat. I notice there is a weekly repair setting that was enabled which basically restarted the router weekly. After changing that setting things worked great for a month or so. Untill last week, when it did its stop working thing and this time i could not get the dang thing to connect to the internet. I searched for a new firmware and lo and behold there was one availible. I updated the firmware

Easy setup, poor quality By KS A month ago I bought the Netgear WGT624 Version 2 wireless "Super G" router, on the basis that it was affordable and that Netgear had always given me good service. Having professionally installed networks in the past, I have always been happy with Netgear's commercial products and was expecting this one to be the same quality. The router was super easy to install and set up, their setup wizard was great, and when it worked, the router was blazing fast. I only got to use the cable connections, never got time to setup a wireless connection. As other reviewers have said, it was setup and running within five minutes of plugging it in. ***CAVEAT*** - It worked GREAT for two days, then began to randomly drop the LAN connections, resulting in the dreaded "Network Cable Unplugged" message (search for "netgear wgt624 network cable unplugged" or search Netgear's forums for pages of similar complaints with no resolutions). This got worse, beginning at a few times per day, finally getting down to every few minutes - it now only worked a few times per day! After a week of swapping NIC's, cables, and confirming settings, I finally broke down and e-mailed Netgear tech support - who was kind enough to reply after two days with the same things I had already tried (confirm settings, hardware reset, update firmware, etc.), and a request for more detailed system info if the problem persisted. Even with the most current firmware release, it would not work reliably - so I sent them back every detail they had requested but got no response after a week. When I finally called them, I got their tech support department in India who confirmed that I was eligible for free tech support (they only offer it for 90 days from purchase, then you have to pay) and then began to go over the e-mails we'd swapped. After 10 minutes with no luck, he suggested that I try the Beta version of the firmware release, AND that this beta version would void my Netgear warranty. After making this suggestion, he said goodbye and hung up in the middle of the conversation. When I immediately called back to India, I got a different tech and was told that I was already out of the 90 day free tech support period (I bought the router a month ago mind you) and that I would have to pay for any support or to get the router replaced under the warranty. After some argument, he finally agreed to help me, but found that the router was indeed defective - and pointed out that there is a known problem with these particular models and he could not guarantee that a replacement would work any better. In order to get the router replaced under the warranty, I would have had to fax or mail my receipt to India (not a toll free #), and wait a week for them to confirm that my Router was within the warranty. After this was done, I would have to call them back and PAY for the "Extended Tech Support," since their computer showed that my router was out of the 90 day free support period (again, it was only a month old). If this return call to tech support proved that my router was defective, I would then get an RMA and have to either ship the defective router to India at my expense and wait three weeks for them to ship a refurbished replacement unit back, or pay them $30 to have a replacement shipped to me first, then ship the defective unit back to them at my expense. ***SOLUTION*** - I returned the router and bought another brand. In searching the Internet, I found that the equivalent D-Link model (the DI-624) has strikingly similar problems so I bought a Linksys and have been happy thus far. I agree with the reviews that the Linksys is not quite as foolproof to set up, but it's worked great for two days now. We'll see. 31 of 31 people found the following review helpful. Davis I bought this kit to send HD video from my computer to my TV media device. It has adequate bandwidth and worked out of the box, but I do not get a strong signal from the main floor to the basement of my house, a distance of about 25 feet. There are a couple of walls as well as the floor, and the basement ceiling has metal duct work and pipes above the plasterboard, so I am probably lucky to penetrate all that. I used a laptop to indicate wireless signal strength, and spent a couple of hours orienting each device for the best signal. Now I get a level that varies from 50% to 70%, and that works reliably for HD at 720p. I have not been able to send 1080i over the link without momentary stops and starts in the audio and video; however the link never breaks connection and never needs resetting. It seems to just limit the bandwidth as the signal strength goes lower. I bought a third WNHDE 111 to connect to another computer, and than link has never been interrupted since I installed it over a month ago. It has always worked well. I had previously used a Linksys G router that was interrupted once or twice a day, and it had to be reinstated manually using the "repair" function in the Windows wireless software. It was my wife's computer in the kitchen, so I had to fix it! I still have the wireless G system up, and it works well around the house with a third computer, a laptop, but it never gave a reliable signal for my wife's computer in the kitchen; and it would not carry the HD video for the TV. I also use that old G router to connect the ethernet from my main computer to the WNHDE 111. I recommend this device if you don't have too many walls and floors to penetrate. I am a retired electronics engineer, and I assure everyone that the higher the frequency, the poorer the penetration, but the more bandwidth and the more freedom from interference. Update: After 7 months, I have better results. With some tweaking of the settings (set the Channel Width to 20 MHz, turn off the "Broadcast SSID", and lower Beacon Period to 50 msec) I can now stream 25 Mbps HD video through all the walls. I think the main problem was that the auto 20/40 Channel Width was trying to run at 40 and was not successful, sometimes switching between 20 and 40. When I reduced the channel width, I got an increase in signal strength. I can now stream 1080i HD for hours without any problem. Jim 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. FAST... but know what you're buying By David Whittle Although this is marketed as an "HD/Gaming" wireless kit, it's important to know what this really is and how to use it. MOST IMPORTANT: This kit isn't a router -- you cannot create a Wireless N network with it alone. It is designed to add to your existing network... often a wireless 2.4 GHz network (commonly 802.11 b/g). This will provide high-speed "802.11n" at 5 GHz so it doesn't interfere with a current b/g network. Any wireless b/g devices (Xbox wireless adapter, PS3 internal wireless, b/g laptops, b/g network cards, etc.) currently used on the network will be unaffected by this addition. HOW THIS WORKS: The kit features two identical units -- one unit will plug into your existing network's router via Ethernet as an "access point", and the other unit will plug into the Ethernet device(s) (Xbox, PS3, computer, etc.) as a "bridge". Once the two units sync, it will behave as if the device(s) plugged into the bridge is hardwired to the network router. Each unit has two Ethernet ports... if you want to plug a 3rd (or more) devices in to the "bridge", you will need to add a switch like NETGEAR FS105 ProSafe 5-Port 10/100 Desktop Switch. TECH NOTE: The Ethernet ports on these devices are NOT Gigabit ports, so even though the wireless N signal can achieve 300 Mbit/s, the fastest speed you will achieve on these devices is 100 Mbit/s. However,
