Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge with 5-port Switch WET54GS5

Linksys Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge with 5-port Switch - High-speed cable-free bridging between remote workgroups! The Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge with 5-port Switch can be used as a kind of "cable-less cable" for connecting remote areas together. Maybe Shipping is all the way across the warehouse from Receiving. You can connect up to 5 Ethernet-equipped computers directly to the high-speed 10/100 switch ports on the Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge. Put another one (or a Wireless-G Access Point, or our one-port Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge) at the other end, and those 5 computers are connected to your main network -- with no need to string wires. And those 5 switch ports can support devices other than PCs. Since there are no drivers to load, you can make any wired-Ethernet device -- like a printer or network attached storage device -- into a wireless network device. All five ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. To protect your data and privacy, all wireless transmissions can be secured with up to 128-bit encryption.

Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere -- wit-hout wires. Outside of the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, airports -- great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer. What Wireless Standard is Right for Me? Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use. Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed. For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time: 802.11b 802.11a 802.11g 802.11a/g To learn about the differences between the standards and select the right one for your network, click here for an easy-to-understand chart.

By Tyrod Put away those silly game adaptors you're trying to get to work as a bridge for multiple ethernet devices. This is the genuine article. I first attached it to my laptop with an ethernet cable. Ran the CD configurator. I set the IP address to one that I wanted. Uploaded the latest firmware that I had already had downloded from the net. Entered the web interface and finished seting up a few minor things including the site survey. Then I put the bridge in place to serve a ethernet enabled Tivo and ReplayTV. I was able to immediately able to access both the Tivo and ReplayTV. I setup WPA-PSK and it has been operating 5x5 ever since. One of the thngs I like about this bridge is that it supports QoS which is important for streaming media and VoIP. The bridge seems to be fairly simple to get setup and running, but has multiple menus which control things which are way over my head. One tip is that the default user name and password is admin and not just the password as implied in the manual. Now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna stick in the other 3 ports. Update 7/13/05 WPA gave up the ghost after 3 days. I had to reboot it a few times to get it to work after disabling WPA. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great - but watch the heat By Rick Starbuck I got the Linksys wireless bridge working very quickly and with no real issues was able to establish a link with WPA-level encryption. A day later, the unit started dropping connections left and right. I spent a few phone calls and chat sessions talking to Linksys tech support and then happened upon the solution all by myself. AMBIENT HEAT FROM OTHER DEVICES KILLS THESE THINGS! If you're experiencing issues with this device, first make sure you've got the latest firmware. Then, check the temperature of the case. I found that setting it on top of my TiVo was enough to cause it to go haywire in a little over an hour. I took it off and placed it on the entertainment center shelf and, voila! no problems. Steady connection. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. This bridge works perfectly with the firmware upgrade By A Customer There was a glaring problem with this unit and WPA security until they released firmware version 4.9.1 recently. It has been running stable in my home network for 2 months now. The AP its connected to is a D-Link DGL4300 with an antenna booster (they are separated by a floor and 30 feet). I have our email and web server connected to the bridge and it works great. Until the 200mbit HomePlug devices come out, this is the best solution this side of CAT-5 cable runs. I have been a happy Netgear customer in the past, and am technical enough to keep both home and small office wireless networks running fine, but this model has a hardware problem that Netgear tech support has finally acknowledged, but for which they are not providing an adequate fix. As others have mentioned, the router will often drop connectivity, and rebooting is the only solution. I bought one, had these problems start (luckily within the 90 day tech support window), and returned the router to Netgear (at my expense) in exchange for another one, which demonstrated the SAME problem less than 24 hours after installation. After yet another long call to India the latest tech support rep acknowledged that lots of these models are having the same problem, and upgrading to the latest firmware (which I did immediately upon installing both of these routers) won't fix it, so her solution was... send this one back (AGAIN at my expense) and they would send me yet another one of the SAME model, which she (for no defensible reason) assures me will work. For more background please see the Netgear tech support forums, where you will see scores of people experiencing the same problem and the same non-solution from Netgear. Save yourself the trouble and buy a different wireless router. 372 of 410 people found the following review helpful. Excellent router with no problems whatsoever By Lihkin This is an exceptional router and at this price you can't find a better choice. I see a lot of disgruntled people here who can't connect to the router wirelessly after changing settings. I would like to give a couple of tips. First of all, make sure you configure the router when you are hard wired. You have to ensure that you are connected to the router via a LAN cable whenever you are making any changes to the router's configuration. This way when the router restarts etc. you will still be connected to it. If you are carrying out any changes to the router through your wireless card, for example if you have changed the WEP encryption code in the router, then once you submit those changes, the router will not let your wireless card connect until your laptop's card is configured for the same WEP key. So once again, please ensure you carry out changes to the router only when hard wired. The moment you get your router, I suggest you carry out a firmware upgrade (go to netgear's support site and download the latest firmware for your model from there). Once again follow instructions and make sure you are connected through a cable to carry out the same. Now log onto the router and then do a couple of things. First of all, rename the SSID to anything you want (eg. Joan's Arc). Then go to the wireless settings, then to wireless access, and click on 'Disable SSID broadcast'. This ensures that the SSID is not broadcast to others around you who have a wireless machine. So when their software searches for a wireless access point all they will see is a blank name. To be able to connect to your network they would have to know the name of your SSID (Joan's Arc in this case) and manually type it in their machines (Highly unlikely that they will be able to think of the same name as you do. You can make your name even harder to obtain by simply using numeric characters in it.. for example Joan's Arc2004). Secondly, to make it secure use a 128 bit WEP key (this has to be a 26 digit key consisting of alphanumeric and numeric characters. You can use only certain alphabets in small and large case so you need to check that out. Also remember that you have to feed the same WEP key number in your laptop wireless card software (or the windows wireless settings if you are not using your wireless card's software). Finally you can ensure that only the wireless devices you specify can logon to your

If we aren't streaming Netflix or Roku, we have phones and computers all competing for bandwidth. I tried the new Linksys e4200, it was OK until too many people logged on wirelessly and started hogging bandwidth. The e4200 would really drop down in speed while it tried to deal with all of the wireless activity. So, I tried the WNDR3700 (v.98 firmware) The WNDR3700 has a fast processor and can handle a lot of wired and wireless users simultaneously. But, the WNDR3700 seemed to "hang" about once an hour for reasons unknown. When I say "hang", it might take 5 seconds to load a web page instead of the usually instantaneous load speed. It got a little annoying. So, I picked up the ASUS RT-N56U router after reading all the reviews and tests on smallnetbuilder dot com. I have to say that this router is ridiculously fast (at least twice as fast as the WNDR3700) and has better reception throughout my entire house. In a location that I used to max out at about 7MB/s with the WNDR3700. I can now sustain 31MB/s in the same location. I have pretty much- 5 bars of wireless reception where I used to have 2 or 3 bars. The ASUS RT-N56U is pretty easy to set up and I like the physical appearance too. Throw in the fact that it is smokin' fast and has great coverage and I think I got a heck of a deal for $127. Highly recommended. by the way, I just noticed that another reviewer was having problems with iPhones not connecting. Our iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, and Android phones are logging on fine, no issues. *** UPDATE 3/28/11 So far, the RT-N56U is performing perfectly and all DD-WRT bridges are connecting at highest rate. I am running firmware 1.0.1.2 I tried to update to the beta 7.0.1.21 as well as the 1.0.1.3 firmware and all of a sudden some laptops had very laggy connections. Instead of instantaneous webpage loads, it would take literally 5 seconds to load??? So, I reverted back to 1.0.1.2 and all devices are running wide open again. +++ UPDATE 4/30/11 Still running perfectly since new with no reboots. Simply awesome. 147 of 154 people found the following review helpful. Probably one of the best Wi-Fi consumer routers ever made By Grey I have been in the market for an 802.11n router, and after having done some extensive research (as of April 1, 2011), I decided to go with Asus RT-N56U. I can attest to the Asus RT-N56U being an excellent consumer-grade router even though it obviously falls short when it comes to more advanced enterprise-level features (where Cisco shines), which 99.9% of all users will never need or even know about. One of the excellent features of the Asus RT-N56U router (not often mentioned) is the fact that you can switch it to the AP (Access Point) mode. When Asus RT-N56U is switched to the AP mode, its WAN port becomes a switch port just like the other 4 LAN ports. You can utilize the WAN port to connect Asus RT-N56U to an external router, and thus not lose one LAN port for this. Therefore, when switching the Asus RT-N56U router to the AP mode, you retain all four LAN ports for the wired connectivity to other non-Wi-Fi devices at 1 Gbps each. Asus RT-N56U supports concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios and the combined throughput via the back plane close to 800 Mbps (per the review by smallnetbuilder.com). In my personal test comparing Asus RT-N56U (in the AP mode) with the Cisco 1131 a/g Access Point, Asus provides nearly the same range in the 5 GHz band that the Cisco 1131 provides in the 2.4 GHz band. Asus RT-N56U 2.4GHz-band range extends beyond the Cisco 1131's range in the 2.4 GHz band. The Asus RT-N56U 5GHz-band range extends far beyond the Cisco 1131's 5GHz-band range. As for the connection download speed, I was able to get almost twice the download speed when connecting wirelessly via the Asus RT-N56U (in the AP mode) vs connecting

Cisco-Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router

Wireless-G is the emerging 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B ( 802.11b ) products found in homes, businesses and public wireless hotspots around the country. Amazon.com Product Description The Linksys Wireless-G broadband router is really three devices in one box. First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility. With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need! Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment. Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. Versions 1 - 4 were great but version 5 is a different story By SoCalReviews The Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS routers have been the number one most popular wireless router devices available for the past few years. So this begs the question why Cisco would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by needlessly changing an almost perfect product. The fact is that versions 1 -4 of the G and the GS (with Speedboost) versions of this router were fantastic. Those earlier routers run a flexible and powerful Linux based firmware that has been perfected for the past few years a numerous updates and tweaks. However, the earlier WRT54G product has now been replaced with a less powerful wireless product (version 5) that has had its onboard flash RAM chopped in half from 4MB to 2MB and its system RAM cut from 16MB to 8MB. Instead of the flexible, reliable and powerful Linux firmware the new WRT54G version 5 routers run the licensed VxWorks firmware instead. There is nothing wrong with using VxWorks and over time Cisco will probably work out the bugs but for now the newest wireless routers are not reliable. Why would Cisco do this to its most popular Linksys brand of wireless routers ? Apparently it might be a case where the first four versions were too flexible for their own good. The open source Linux firmware with the large amount of flash and system memory was attractive to many third party independent software developers that were turning the WRT54G and GS routers into powerhouse micro Linux wireless computers with a functionality approaching and often surpassing the $600+ wireless routers that Cisco sells. There might also have been an excess number of product warranty returns for the WRT54G routers due to so many people flashing them with non-Linksys third party firmware that sometimes can "brick" a router or make it unusable. Your solution is to either look for a previous version of the "WRT54G" router before version 5 or purchase the "WRT54GS" (SpeedBooster) version 4 which as of the posting of this review is still available in the stores and it still uses the popular Linux firmware. You will pay $20 more for the GS model but compared to the version 5 of the G model it is worth the extra money. The GS models 1 - 4 are all good with GS version 3.0 and 3.1 reportedly being the most flexible of the bunch and GS 4.0 being the latest. If you want to use third party firmware you may want the GS versions 2.0 - 3.0/3.1 since they have the most flash RAM while still having newer Broadcom based processors. Finally, if you do plan to flash your WRT54G with third party firmware the ones before version 4 of the WRT54G wireless routers are supposed to be easier to work with. How do you find which version you are looking for? Look on the bottom of the box near the scan tag for the serial number of the router. For the WRT54G wireless routers look for CDFA or a CDF9 or lower (CDF8, CDF7, 6, etc.) Any serial number with CDF5 (v2.0) through CDF9 (v3.1) are the most flexible for use with third party firmware. Unless you want to use a more risky third party firmware I recommend that you read the manual instructions on how to carefully flash these older router models with a newer Linksys firmware which is designed for that specific router version. The latest official Linksys firmware for each specific version of router can be obtained from the Linksys support site. Completely avoid the WRT54G routers with the "CDFB" (v5.0) serial numbers since those are the buggy VxWorks versions. You could also simply purchase the WRT54GS (v4.0) routers that say Speedboost on the box. You will see the "CGN6" serial numbers on the box and as of this review these were still using Linux firmware with software based SpeedBoost enhancements but the RAM and hardware inside seems to be essentially the same as the older WRT54G (v4.0) version 4. The WRT54GS v2.0 (CGN3) through v3.0 (CGN5) are also

Cisco SRW224G4P 24-port 10/100 + 4-port Gigabit Switch - WebView/PoE

The Linksys Switch with WebView allows you to expand your network securely. Configuration of the switch is secured using SSL for Web access. User control is secured with 802.1x security using a RADIUS authentication mechanism and can also be controlled using MAC-based filtering.Extensive QoS features make the solution ideal for real-time applications like Voice and Video. The 4 priority queues together with the Weighted Round Robin and Strict Priority scheduling techniques facilitate efficient coexistence of real-time traffic with data traffic allowing them each to meet their QoS needs. Individual users or applications can be prioritized above others using various Class of Service options - by port, Layer 2 priority (802.1p), and Layer 3 priority (ToS or DSCP). Intelligent broadcast and multicast storm controls minimize and contain the effect of these types of traffic on regular traffic. IGMP Snooping limits bandwidth-intensive video traffic to only the requestors without flooding all users. Incoming traffic can be policed and outgoing traffic can be shaped allowing you to control network access and traffic flow.

By Tmurphy We bought a few of theses for a voip phone system that we had used some poe dlink switches with(went with theses since they were cheaper) after installing and spending about 2 hours configuring the thing to do basic vlan tagging. We discovered that after putting 24 phones on the thing it cant power our intercom device. We then decided to spend the $300 on the dlinks rather than this (they were $200) since it only takes about 20 min to get everything set up and going. The web interface takes a minimum of 30 seconds to load each page, you can't do anything over telnet or ssh other than set usernames and passwords which the thing decides to not accept and use and locks you out. Over all cisco should be ashamed to release something with this bad of a web interface and not make the telnet usable even if it is under the linksys name. Also one thing that is a nice security flaw is that it advertises over UPnP that "hey im a switch that shouldn't be known about except for by admins. Come try and hack me!" 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great for VoIP phone systems - Toshiba, Allworx By Dwayne Connelly We purchased this for a client who purchased a Toshiba CIX phone system. The toshiba CIX VoIP phones require 6.7 watts of power for POE. The first 12 ports are configured for 15 watts. If using more than 12 ports of POE, then the power drops to 7.5. For Toshiba, 7.5 works for us. Check your equipment for POE requirements, such as IP cameras, which may use more power... See all 2 customer reviews...

Wireless networks are rapidly becoming more popular and coming down in price. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere -- without wires.

Dang I love the WRT54G which I have bought for my home a year ago. I am a college student and just bought another one since I moved off campus. At first, I had trouble deciding between the WRT54G or the WRT54GS( with speedbooster). From first glance, the speedbooster tag seems enticing since everybody wants fast wireless transfers that would hopefully come close to wired networks. After reading some reviews and speaking to my best friend who works for Linksys , the only difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GS is the flash and Ram memory. It is an upgrade from 4mb to 8mb for the flash, and 16mb to 32mb for the Ram. Basically you wont surf the internet any faster. The benefits of this is just transferring files from one computer to another will increase. For those who just want to share an internet connection, stick with the WRT54G and save the extra 20 bucks for a 30 pack of beer. If you like to transfer files between computers, spend the extra dough. 90 of 90 people found the following review helpful. Good Value with Built in Security By W. Mills I recently purchased the Linksys wrt54gs router upon the recommendation of our firm's IT manager. We use this same router in our business office. I am using this one in a 3000 sq ft home and the router covers the entire house with an "excellent" to "very good" reception (54mps). It does take a little while to hook up. AND, this is important - it is much easier to hook up the router using a program download from the linksys.com web site. The program will walk you through the set up process and program the router for your system. I figure Linksys created the program to reduce all the time their technical people were spending with people like me. In fact their technical support recommended the program instead of the cd. So skip the cd that comes with the router and don't mess with the "easy set up button"; just use the free download. Also, if you're a novice like me you need to know that you program the router using your internet browser. The address is in the manual. Finally, be sure to set up the security features otherwise your wireless network will be open for anyone within range to connect. 228 of 254 people found the following review helpful. Being Wireless Can Be So Beautiful By A Customer I have nothing but good things to say about this item. I can't believe that there is not one review on this item yet. After struggling with the D-Link DI-624 & all of its included problems for about 3 weeks I decided to return it. Those were the worst 3 weeks of my life. The router would reboot every few minutes, & would disconnect every time the phone rang. The very worst part of all was that the D-Link PC Card would freeze my notebook with no way to properly shutting down. I even tried the new Netgear card with the same results. At this point I had given up on wireless, & switched back to using cables. About a week ago, my girl showed up at my doorstep with an Amazon box. When I opened it & saw what was inside. I said to myself, oh boy here we go again, & to my surprise it was nothing like that. Everything went smooth as silk, from beginning to end. The best experience I have had in a long time. The router it self is very well built & sturdy, unlike the D-Link. I guess it's true what people say, you get what you pay for. For anybody in the market for a wireless router, I would highly recommend you spending a few dollars more & getting a quality product from a well known company like Linksys / Cisco. The installation was a no-brainer, & the configuration process was just as easy. The configuration wizard walks you step by step & explains what each setting does. Till this day, I haven't had any problems with reboots or disconnects when the phone rings. The best part is my Linksys PC Card doesn't freeze my notebook, & does have slightly

By Goldengate The short review is: excellent router, extremely easy to set up, great range, good stability, nice white color, absolutely no complaints. Here's the longer review: I took a total risk on this router...there were no reviews on Amazon, I'd never heard of ASUS, and wasn't convinced that ordering it was a good idea. However, the price was right, and I had just spent frustrating hours trying to configure a Netgear route. My previous router, a D-link, had a "known issue" that the manufacturer solved by discontinuing the model's support. So, I thought, let me try this unknown brand and see what happens. If worse comes to worse I'd just return it to Amazon. WOW was I pleased! Literally, 10 minutes after I had opened it, I had it configured as an access point, had logged into the router from my wireless laptop, and had set up a password to encrypt the network. I've set up maybe 5-7 routers in my life and always dread it... this was by far the easiest experience I've ever had. In the picture on the site, this router looks like it's an ugly grey color. It is a shiny smooth white - think Apple ipod aesthetic - with nice white antennas. Very aesthetically pleasing. Though the advertising for this router states "diskless setup" it come with an optional setup disk. I did not use it as I wanted to test the advertising's claim...and am pleased to say it's an example of truth in advertising! I'm also getting very good signal strength, speed and stability...I will DEFINITELY update this review if I run into issues, but overall I'm giving this thing 5 stars (and I almost never give 5 stars because I think everything has room for improvement) because it was so inexpensive and easy to set up, and performs exactly as advertised. I am using this router as an "access point" which means it is connected via ethernet cable to another router and serves to extend the range of my wireless network. There's a switch on the back that allows you to select access point mode, standard router mode, or bridge/repeater mode. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Update 5/10/2010- still working great... I put some white electricians' tape over the blue LEDs in front as they were too bright, but other than that, no issues at all. I forget it's there - it just works all the time without needing to be unplugged every so often like my other routers.... my wireless devices are always connected to it and don't lose signal. Still a 5-star review. Update 8/13/2011- This unit is still cranking away...doing great. I NEVER have to unplug and plug it back in, it just works... no rebooting. I just bought the N16 model to replace my primary wireless router (using this one as an access point to extend the network) and am very pleased with it as well... the two work well together. STILL happy with this router! 82 of 84 people found the following review helpful. Get this one for a remote wireless switch! By Sablefoste Okay, this is the first review I have written for Amazon, but I felt compelled, because I had to do too much research on this project. The quick backdrop: I have recently moved to a new house, and I have two areas in the house requiring internet. I could not run a CAT5 cable from the source to the back room, where I am running both a windows XP and Ubuntu desktop. I already have a Linksys wireless b/g/n router but I didn't want to buy USB wireless dongles for my desktops (each new desktop would require a new dongle). After much looking on the internet, I wasn't sure which equipment was correct to act as a long distance access point (for my wired devices). I bought this one, because it was a good price, and had both repeater mode and access point. I figured something must work. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it was to set this up. I am quite techy and don't fear digging in to solve any problems, but I didn't have too many

By Integrity Electronics USA This new WAP from Cisco / Linksys is smaller and easier to install than previous models, and is a great price for a dual band B/G/N WAP. The range seems pretty good too, but we've noticed that there can be a huge difference with signal reception, depending on the quality of internal wireless antennae in certain laptops and netbooks. e.g. At one of our customers' home: Her new PC netbook and laptop had 'Good' reception (3 out of 5 bars), while my Apple MacBookPro had 'Excellent' reception from the same location. The WAP was broadcasting plenty of signal. Her two computers just couldn't receive all the signal, because of poor internal wireless antennae. So if you buy this product, and the range seems weak, don't assume it's the WAP. Also, make sure you select 'Wireless-N Only' mode, if ALL your computers have newer 802.11n cards. This will speed up your connection. If you don't have N cards, then leave the setting in 'Mixed' mode, otherwise your B and G cards won't receive any signal. Hope this helps. Do not buy this item (WAP610N) By Charles Orton I purchased a couple of these WAP610N access points for clients based on Linksys/Cisco reputation. There are many documented problems with connectivity, rebooting under load, inability to pass DHCP packets properly, and static IP addressing in the 10.x.x.x range to allow me to provide a positive recommendation for this product. Cisco and Linksys should be ashamed to have released such a buggy product. Calling them on the phone is a complete waste of time, and posting in their on-line support forums (along with the other unfortunate WAP610N owners) is also futile, because Cisco/Linksys will not even acknowledge the issues (but they are quick to edit your forum postings if you say something that they do not like). Consequently I have no other options but to return the WAP610N units for refunds and to make others aware of the potential problem with this device. The most current firmware for this device was released about 9 months ago in March of 2010. Linksys - I've learned my lesson. No more Linksys or Cisco gear for my business or for my clients. Thank you. 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Great Dual Band WAP. (It's not a simultaneous Dual Band WAP though) By cpyao I have this configured as a 2.4Ghz Wireless-G Access Point at my place. It works great, I haven't had any issues with it. The one downside to this WAP610N (and also their WET610N)is that it takes a long time for it to reboot itself once you've made changes in the settings and save them, but it's not that big of a deal though. Also, I thought that this was a Simultaneous Dual Band (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz) like the WRT610N Router, but it's not. It's either or, I guess I should have read the specs a little better, but I still would have purchased it anyway. I guess they did that for a reason since I just bought a second one today so I can run that one as a 5Ghz Wireless-N Access Point. I've only been using it for a week but I haven't had any issues with it at all, it's a great WAP. See all 42 customer reviews...

Cisco SRW224G4 24-port 10/100 + 4-port Gigabit Switch - WebView

The Linksys WebView Managed switch allows you to expand your network securely. Configuration of the switch is secured using SSL for Web access and SSH for Telnet access. User control is secured using 802.1x security using a RADIUS authentication mechanism and can also be controlled using MAC filtering. Extensive QoS features makes the solution ideal for real-time applications like Voice and Video. The 4 priority queues together with the Weighted Round Robin and Strict Priority scheduling techniques facilitate efficient co-existence of real-time traffic with data traffic allowing them each to meet their QoS needs. Individual users or applications can be prioritized above others using various Class of Service options - by port, layer 2 priority (802.1p), Layer 3 priority (TOS or DSCP), or IPv6 Traffic Class. By Manoj Manghnani Nice switch for the money but I think due to dust in my office the fan bush got clogged and it started making a lot of noise. Had to replace it in about an year just because of the noise. Good interface and very well done software, the gigabit ports were not compatible to some of my older computers though. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY -- Must use IE 6.0 or older to manage it! By NameWithheldForPrivacy The latest firmware for this is 1.2.3.0 dated 11/25/2008. That firmware only allows you to use the WebView management interface with Internet Explorer 6.0 or OLDER. As I expected, Cisco bought LinkSys and totally destroyed their product line so you have to buy Cisco's equipment which costs 10 times as much and requires a CCIP/XYZ certification to be able to figure it out. Also, even if cisco hadn't obsoleted this equipment, they make it nearly impossible to find support for it on their bloated web presence. This is common with all large technology oligopolies that buy up smaller companies: Intel, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, etc. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch

Unmanaged Gigabit Switch, 5-Port 10/100/1000Mbps

Brand: D-Link Model: DGS-2205 Released on: 2010-10-13 Platform: Windows Format: CD Number of items: 1 Dimensions: 2.40" h x 8.30" w x 10.80" l, 1.00 pounds Scare away garden pestsl^Lightweight and multifunctional^Use year after year^Chemical-free pest control

From the Manufacturer The first Green Ethernet technology on the market the DGS-2205 features innovative technology. Reduces power consumption & creates less heat Extended product life Reduces Operating Costs Power Savings by Number of Connected Ports and Link Status Computers do not require Internet access all the time; neither do switches utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings.  Power Savings by Cable Length The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power.  Overall Power Savings Per Day For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 27%* power used for each system.  Note: Switch uses switching power adapter. The cable length which PCs are connected to switch is 20m cables. The D-Link DGS-2205 is a 5-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. Increase the speed of your network server and backbone connections, or make Gigabit to the desktop a reality. Power users in the home, office, workgroup, or creative production environment can now move large, bandwidth-intensive files faster. Transfer graphics, CGI, CAD, or multimedia files across the network instantly. Power-Packed The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8,000 MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks. Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission. Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-2205 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds. Easy to use The auto features of this gigabit switch make installation plug and play and hassle-free. No configuring is required. Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance. It also features diagnostic LEDs which display status and activity, allowing you to quickly detect and correct problems on the network. * Power savings may vary depending on products used. Maximum power savings when compared to a D-Link conventional switch. Uses up to 44% less energy when connected devices are powered down and up to 27% less energy when connected devices are used 10 hours and powered down 14 hours over a 24-hour period, when connected via 20 meter Ethernet cables. Green Ethernet features available on hardware version B1 or later.

Like a previous reviewer, I noticed that I wasn't getting anywhere near gigabit speeds to my LaCie Ethernet Raid device. Well, that's because the LaCie Ethernet Raid Device is a slow pig. After connecting my Mac Book Pro and my Mac Pro to the switch, I started offloading data to the Mac Pro. Sustained throughput was 320 megabits per second with long bursts up to 720 megabits per second. At this point, the hard drive on the Macbook Pro was the bottleneck. Normally, I don't care for D-link products, but this little switch is quite the gem. I've also noticed no noise from the unit, even when transferring large amounts of data at near wire speed. 26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Works Great, look for the new 5V version By Kin Tam Works Great, Clear light indicators, good product. There are 2 versions of this on the market. There is a early version of 7V DC and the new rev 5V DC. I would take the 5V units only. 19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. easy -- just connect it, that's all By CS A good switch should require no real thought to install. You plug in, connect cat5e cables, and you're done. After that, it should work invisibly, giving you good throughput and no concerns whatsoever. This one does that. If you need a modest-cost 5-port gigabit switch, I can recommend this one without reservation. Notes: (1) If you don't need gigabit, you can get 100mb equipment pretty cheap right now. (2) Keep in mind that you use 1 port in a switch for the incoming cable, so a 5-port gives you connection to 4 devices, 8-port allows for 7 devices, etc. (Yeah, I know, it's dumb, but that's the way techies think.) (3) If you think you might need a couple more ports later, then definitely get the 8-port switch, since you don't pay that much more for the extra ports. If you're concerned about expectations for the brand -- I am generally pretty happy with DLink products. I certainly haven't had any breaking right after 1 year of use, as I have had for some other brands. See all 154 customer reviews...

Price is right but there are some quirks By xb90 I've been using this unit as an "AP Client" (wireless bridge to connect my ethernet (no-wifi) computers to my wireless LAN). I paid about $40 for this unit which is significantly less than competing products with similar capabilities. Setup with connection to my existing Wireless-N router using WPA security was very easy and the unit initially was reliable and performed very well. Like any other home network equipment it is left "on" 24/7 and it never gets hot etc. So far, so good. After having the unit in service for several weeks without incident, my ISP had an outage with all internet connectivity failing. After my ISP restored service, I noticed that the AP671W was not providing connectivity to the rest of my now-functional wireless network. I was also unable to access the AP671W's built-in web interface to check things out. Re-powering the unit did not help and switching the radio off and on did not work either. Eventually, I had to resort to a factory reset and run the Airlink EZWizard.exe setup program to reconfigure the unit. Fortunately, that is actually a fairly simple process and does not take too long. Also fortunate that I did not have to physically connect the AP671W to my WiFi router as described in the instructions - the unit was able to find my WiFi router and re-establish a connection once I provided the correct network settings and WPA passphrase. This has now happened to me three times and is always triggered by my main WiFi losing WAN connectivity or getting reset. I now keep the AP671W EZWizard.exe program on my local hard disk so I don't have to dig out the CD next time I lose connectivity as it will inevitably be needed again. I visited the AirLink web site looking for any available firmware updates.... there were none. This is my first Airlink product and so this did not leave me with a good impression. I suppose it's possible that I have a one-off defect in my particular unit but that seems unlikely and since it generally works and I can fix it when this issue occurs, trying to get a replacement is more trouble than it's worth (since I purchased over the internet). I'm using it primarily in my home office so fortunately I'm the only one impacted when problems arise (since I'm the only one in the house who can fix it). So, the bottom line is that it's a pretty good unit, costing about half (or less) than products with similar capabilities. When it loses its connection the fix is pretty easy (for me at least) but could be a problem for those less technically inclined. Finally, I should stress that I have only used this unit in "AP Client" mode (connect ethernet devices to wifi LAN). There are five other modes that the unit operates in (Access Point, Universal Repeater, Point-to-Point Bridge, Point-to-Multi-Point Bridge, and WDS Bridge) and these may or may not experience the same problem. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Doesn't work as AP Client with WPA2-PSK (AES) By BlackBeard I purchased this product along with the Airlink AR675W to use as an AP Client. I already had a Linksys wireless router I figured I'd switch to an Airlink pair for compatibility and to get the 300mbs "n" speed. For max security I will only use WPA2-PSK (AES). The WPA2-PSK (AES) in the AR675W worked fine -- all my other wireless devices connected to it without any problems. But no matter what I tried, the AP671W in AP Client mode would not establish a WPA2-PSK (AES) connection with either my old Linksys or with the AR675W. It connected with lesser security but not with WPA2-PSK (AES). This was my first experience with Airlink & I found the online help, forums, and knowledge base to be useless. I'm returning both products and looking for something else. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Weird (unacceptable) setup/management; requires Windows, contrary to mfg. claim By

Didn't use the included cd, but instead chose to go in manually and set it up via web page config mode. Whole thing took maybe 45 minutes. Everything looks the same as my old wrt54g router which was creeping on its way to the old age home and who's signal would die every time I'd fire up the microwave. Easy setup, blazing speeds, setup port forwarding for my xbox 360, port forwarding for my air video server to stream DVR video to my iPhone and iPad, turned on firewall and made sure VPN pass thru was enabled. Set a password on router to change from default. Setup DHCP to have a 7 day lease. We have almost a completely wireless house. A blackberry, iPhone, iPad, xbox360, netbook, 2 laptops, HTPC, Hp Printer and a desktop. Everything is hooked up wireless except the desktop. Setup the 5ghz with a unique SSID and password and connected the xbox360. Tested a 1080i streaming video from xbox live, worked flawlessly. Tried to hook the HTPC into the 5ghz but could not due to an issue with the pc's NIC (probably with a driver, I'll mess with it later). Put the iPad on the 5ghz and it hooked in flawlessly and streamed video like a champ. Everything else went on the the 2.4ghz band. Setup the same SSID and password that I used on my old linksys and then unplugged the old router. Everything hopped right over to the new one. Speed seems better on everything. The UnPnP feature resolved some issues I had between xbox and getting media off other pcs. Tested VPN pass thru to make sure I could connect back to work network. Only thing I have not tried is the Storage server option. Definately a solid router so far. 299 of 322 people found the following review helpful. Cisco connect By Jason I have read some of the reviews before I bought this router E3000 and was almost not going to buy it because of the bad reviews. So I want to write a review to help people understand this wireless router. There are only 4 things inside the box when you first get it. The router, setup disk, Ethernet cable, and power brick. There is no instruction manual I don't really think you need one the instructions are on the setup disk. First you have to run the CD first than follow the on screen instructions. It just basically tells you the timing for when they want you to plug in a connection and diagnose if it is working and installs the Cisco Connect program. YOU CAN USE THE CISCO CONNECT PROGRAM AND THE ADVANCE SETTINGS . I have looked online from reviews from both amazon and other websites and the major complaint is that you can't use both but you CAN. I have experimented a little bit with the advanced settings (also accessible through 192.168.1.1) that you can access through the cisco connect program under router settings. So far from the changes I made, the only setting that you can not change in the advanced settings, that will disable the cisco connect program is the settings for the 2.4 GHz wireless settings either the Network Name (SSID) or the passphrase. You can change the settings for the 5 GHz and can still access Cisco Connect. The reason why so many people want to change the SSID is because the Cisco Connect program assign you a silly random name, mines was quickdolphin for example. I think that might be the main cause of some of the bad reviews. If You want to change the 2.4 GHz SSID and still be able to use both cisco connect and the advance settings change it only through the cisco connect program under Router settings/ Personalize there you can change the router name and password after that change whatever you want in the advance settings. If at any time you cannot access the cisco connect program than you can just reset the router and just go through the installation CD again. You can turn off the guest access and the parental control is there if you need it in the cisco connect. This router can

Weisskopf For less than $200, you can't beat this wire speed switch. It has 24 - 10/100 ports for connecting cables and 1 10/100/1000BaseTX port for connecting to your backbone. There's also a mini GBIC port for future expansion. Compared to the Cisco Catalyst 3550 at $2000 and change each this is a steal. It's not an intelligent switch but all the ports have automatic crossover detection and independently negotiate for best speed at half duplex or full duplex. No rack mounts but racks just fine on trays. See all 3 customer reviews...

It was easy to set up and its range is outstanding. I set it up at one end of the house and it works perfectly throughout my home as well outdoors (in my yard). The reason I purchased this product over some other better known brands was because it had such great reviews (on other web sights)...and that it is the most sold router in China. At this point there are no negitives to this product. Also price was a major factor in my decision. I would encourage anyone looking for an excellent router at a great price...to consider the TL-Link WR541G Wireless Router. You won't be sorry. 23 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Unbeatable for the price By Max W. After owning this little jewel for over one year I can honestly say this is the best wireless router I've ever owned. Setup is fast and easy including the security. Having owned other routers before I was halfway familiar with setup procedures so I skipped the disk and just fired it up and followed the prompts. Within ten minutes it was up and running and not once in the past year have I ever needed to reset it or do anything other than move it around a little to get the best signal coverage in my home. The only downside I can find is that tech support is in China. One time I thought the router was causing a slow connection and I attempted to resolve the problem with tech support and the language barrier became a problem. As it turned out, the slowdown was caused by my ISP which initially refused to admit they had a fiber optic line cut a couple of hundred miles away. The router was not to blame. For the price you simply can't beat this unit, it has provided the most bang for the buck of any router I've owned. It runs cool and the coverage area is as good or better than on Linksys and D-link routers I've used in the past. At times with guests in my home there have been as many as 5 computers and 4 cell phones logged in at one time with no problem. I also have one computer connected directly to the router via cable and it streaks along flawlessly. Even if you are a first time wireless router user you shouldn't have any serious problems setting this one up. It recovers quickly from power outages and can essentially be ignored after the initial set up. I can't vouch for other TP-Link routers but if they are anything like this one they will be worth getting when the time comes for an upgrade. I am extremely impressed with this product and have intentionally waited over a year before publishing a review. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Perfect For Home Wireless Internet By Playingpossum I needed a router to extend internet service to 4 pcs in different rooms: a legacy Dell, a new quadcore AMD 64 bit Vista based unit, a Lenova laptop with Windows XP Professional OS, and a plain vanilla Emachine. I had planned to pickup a Netgear 3700 N modum in order to have the benefit of a usb port that I would use for a shared mass storage device. Since it was not yet available, I purchased the TP-Link from Amazon for $29.00 until the more expensive unit became available. I have only low intermediate technical knowledge, but the set up was simple and the accompanying CD quickly guided me through the process of establishing security. ALL four machines receive a very strong signal and the laptop can receive an acceptable signal 200 feet + outside. The router is working so well that I may abandon the more expensive brand name router and keep using the well made and nice looking TP-Link unit. See all 57 customer reviews...
