Eaton, I would say that the E4200 router provides a tight connection, about the same throughput as the NETGEAR 450 Mbps Wireless-N750 Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR4000 (even a 450 Mbps router), simple configuration using `Cisco Connect 'and the lack of LEDs on the front of the router really helps with light pollution on the desktop. Benefits: * Supports 3-stream (450 Mbps) at 5 GHz band. The tested transfer rate of 5-GHz band was 129 Mbps and 148 Mbps to the bottom (laptop with Intel 6300 wireless card on a server with a cable connection). Over 15% faster than my old router WNDR3700, but I was for a 50% increase (300 Mbps -> 450 Mbps) hope. * Simply use the Cisco `Connect 'application setup. The application will guide you in setting up the wireless security, parental control, and guest networks. * No router connection problems with my PS3, Windows Home Server, volcanic islands and the iPhone: * Only two data streams (300 Mbps) in the 24 GHz performance tested at 2.4 GHz, 60 Mbps and 70 Mbps down * No additional functions, such ex. by WDS repeating / * WNDR4000 bridge has a greater parental control features Summary: Having WNDR4000 E4200 and E4200 is about the same throughput as WNDR4000 (134 Mbps and 140 Mbps down on the 5 GHz band). The difference between the two is about functionality. The E4200 has a configuration program that allows a novice to configure the router with ease. The WNDR4000 offers more useful features such as WDS and repeat traffic meters. As regards the status of the router, I can not really comment on it because they live in a small apartment. Some additional background information: One of the things I think is missing in the router table "comparison" is the CPU speed. The processor speed will give you an idea of the performance of the router. So here is what I found on the Internet E1200 - 300 MHz with 32 MB RAM and 4 MB Flash-E1500 - 300 MHz with 32 MB RAM and 8 MB Flash-E2500 - 300 MHz with 64 MB RAM and 8 MB Flash-E3000 - 480 MHz with 64 MB RAM and 8 MB Flash-E4200 - 480 MHz CPU with 64MB RAM and 16MB Flash 113 107 people found this review helpful. Great router with robust functionality, although the signal from 5-GHz band and the unpredictable speed of Jennifer Ray (updated 20/06/11 Revue adding details of the 1.0.02 firmware and support for USB printer to the router E4200 . Please note that the end of the revision of this update.) I network my home long before Wi-Fi routers are still available (or affordable) for home users via Ethernet to the time and motion, as soon as wireless as soon as it was available for private use. Over the years I've almost always Linksys router, and the few times I've tried other brands used, I was soon tired and turned back to Linksys. I will not say I've always had great experiences with this manufacturer, but my general experience with them is well enough to position Linksys as a name I trust when I saw the set of features for the new Cisco-Linksys Router , E4200, I was more than intrigued, especially by the dual-band functionality and the potential speed of bragging. It turns out, only one of the wireless adapters I already have supported the 5 GHz band, and it was the internal NIC on one of my computers. To fully test the Linksys E4200, I bought a Cisco Linksys Wireless-N High Performance AE1000 adapter attached to each of my computers to test with the new router. The dual-band mode by default use the same SSID for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band. This makes a wireless adapter to seamlessly connect to any of those bands that you may or may not help if you want certain wireless devices to connect to the 5 GHz band, which is potentially faster. Fortunately, you can manually the name of two wireless bands with different SSID and connect devices that support

Nice and small, but high-quality construction. Internet performance is stronger than other switches, I have tried over the years. A huge advantage is that it heats up like the others. Good job D-Link from another high-end product. 22 of 22 people found this review helpful. Great little switch - packet switching elegant D. Dean was looking for a small low power, unreliable switch with 8 Gigabit ports supports auto MDI / MDIX .. and found it. The unit runs very cool, completely silent, eloquent and sits in the background. Before I bought this, I have seen Linksys (aka Cisco), TRENDnet, HP, and a few other options for the overall throughput, buffer RAM, the consumption of energy, etc. Dlink DGS-1008G is just above the bottom of the pack 16Gbps and 11.9 Basketball 9 million packets per second, which corresponds roughly to 703 gigabit high-speed, which should be around 87.875MBps (megabytes, not bits). Remember that 1 MB = 125 Gbps throughput. Not all consumers change I found out there that can support this data rate. This is one of the switches highest throughput available in 8-port consumables, and Trendnet with HP second and third (in that order). Developed the perfect box. I made a couple of Cat5e cables and went away. Now if only combine this option with Dlink wireless router and one WAN port! It would be great. Update 06-26-11: Now that I've had time to test it out, I can get about 84-85 megabytes per second transfer rate, beside the numbers I mentioned above. Tested with iperf / jperf with TCP / UDP. Be sure to set all devices to get this jumbo frame throughput. I went into the settings for your network card and changed the packet size default MTU of 9K. Changed my Synology NAS also for 9K. 20 of 21 people found this review helpful Best Switch for money by Richard A. Nathan, this is a fantastic product. It is difficult for some reason to find a good gigabit switch. Most consumers switches are 10/100, not 10/100/1000, and they sell for the same price or more than the D-Link. Before I was with some Dell 2708 switches. They ran smoothly, but are big and heavy (and metal). This product is small, usually plastic, light and run cool. I also like power management. D-Link 5-port switch, half the price, is an excellent value. See all 70 reviews ....

Recently I was able to get one from Amazon at a good price so I jumped it.This switch, unlike a lot of Linksys products are made of metal * *. It is very sturdy and relatively small - not much higher than the plugs themselves. It has no fan and runs only slightly warm to the touch .... Each port on this device is now capable of uplink, not just a door "with a button" as the title suggests. For me it was a pleasant surprise as I have several Ethernet cables are designed for uplink and with this option, I use them every time I have because of automatic registration of all 16 ports.I really like the LED and wires coming-out on the front. The performance of the devices at the consumer level is to put the cables on the back. This does not work for me, as I have my "network center" in the basement and all cables from the front approach (compared notes, is how to connect professional team is built and the fact that also evokes the Netgear uses your energy level user teams) Anyway, I've been using this switch easily to a couple of months. It works like a switch should be: without thinking. Only works.Mike Dec. 12 people found this review helpful. Low cost, works well for lschofield I wanted to upgrade my home network from a central 10M/sec built into the Router to a switch 100M/sec. Probably could have gotten a product with 8 ports, but I have some means of wiring a patch panel and I want to walk to the basement and the patch around as I moved around the house. This 16-port version that seemed a good way go.The product is a very different style than I have other Netgear products (not that I cared). It is small, a profile not much higher than the candles too, and the case is very sturdy and solid, with no fans, no noise. My only negative comment is that I have a standard 19-inch rackmount are preferred, but others prefer to condense in this case more. It fits easily on a shelf, or you can mount on the wall with screws on the end result underside. And - home network much faster! This would be a good solution for anyone with a larger network wired home or small office, or someone who holds LAN parties are. 16 ports will connect many people! 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Netgear unethical not honor warranties Tractor Technology The equipment is OK. I mean, it's really hard to go wrong, for it is only one switch. The problem is Netgear will not honor the lifetime warranty should. The worst thing is that they put you on hold forever, you bounce technology (I'm sorry, are called "engineers" - an insult to the royal engineers everywhere) And the next you say the problem is the software (even the light is still illuminate this software, which had a thunk it) and try to bill for the premium subsidy rate. When this was refused, they hung up. So yes, Netgear stuff can seem like a bargain, but be prepared to replace it on your own nickel when it fails (mine lasted 8 months). The first of the Green Ethernet products the DGS-1024D provides 3 key benefits to end users through its cutting edge innovative eco-friendly technology Reduces power consumption & creates less heat Extended product life Reduces Operating Costs Power Savings by Number of Connected Ports and Link Status Computers do not require Internet access all the time; neither do switches utilize all ports at all times. When a computer or network equipment is shutdown, switches often remain on and continue to consume considerable amount of power. With Green Ethernet technology, D-Link switches can automatically detect link status and reduce power usage of ports that are idle. Computers or any connecting parties set to standby mode (not power off), however, will not provide significant power savings. Power Savings by Cable Length The Green Ethernet switches have the ability to analyze the length of any Ethernet cable connected to them for adjustment of power usage accordingly. Shorter lengths require less power. Overall Power Savings Per Day For a traditional switch, power consumption remains constant even when the ports are not in use. In a standard workday scenario where PCs are used for 10 hours a day and powered off 14 hours a day, and connected to the switch using 20 meter cables, D-Link's Green Ethernet can save up to 25%* power used for each system. Note: Switch uses switching power adapter. The cable length which PCs are connected to switch is 20m cables. Get the blazing speed of Gigabit Ethernet with the D-Link GigaExpress DGS-1024D, an 24-port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch that delivers power, performance, and reliability in one cost-effective, space-saving design. The versatile and compact 1RU height design of the DGS-1024D enables the device to be rackmounted in a standard 19 inch rack, while conserving valuable rack space. Power-Packed It features a non-blocking switching architecture that filters and forwards packets at full wire-speed for maximum throughput. An 8K MAC address table provides scalability for even the largest networks. Address learning and aging, 802.3x Flow Control for full-duplex mode, and back pressure flow control for half-duplex mode alleviates traffic congestion and ensures reliable data transmission. Designed using industry standards, it is compatible with virtually all 10, 100, and 1000Mbps Ethernet devices and other vendor equipment. The D-Link DGS-1024D 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Switch protects your existing network investments while providing you with a straightforward migration path to faster Gigabit speeds. Easy to use The auto features of this gigabit switch make installation plug and play and hassle-free. No configuring is required. Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance. It also features diagnostic LEDs which display status and activity, allowing you to quickly detect and correct problems on the network. Every port also supports a cable diagnostic feature that helps to detect cable related problems. * Power savings may vary depending on products used. Maximum power savings when compared to a D-Link conventional switch. Uses up to 45% less energy when connected devices are powered down and up to 25% less energy when connected devices are used 10 hours and powered down 14 hours over a 24-hour period, when connected via 20 meter Ethernet cables. Green Ethernet features available on hardware version C1 or later.

I ordered one of these pages as part of a project to rack up and centralize my home network. Before I have multiple switches in series together in my basement. With the new D-Link switch, I could rack with some useful vertical rack arms and associated with a 24-port patch panel and cable management rack to get everything organized very well. Amazon description of this switch is obsolete. The current version of the product shows that the latter has 73% power efficient than comparable non-green D-Link switches. It is also noteworthy that the front plate on my device is a silver color, not the white face plate is held in the product photos. I turned this option on my workbench with a Kill-A-Watt power meter and with nothing else connected with this beast on port 24 is only 3 watts drinking with five gigabit devices are using a miserable 7 watts. Even fully loaded, according to the specifications will not use this option more than about 19 watts. The switch has features that will reduce energy consumption based on the remote device speed cable connection, and if the port is active or not. This means that you have a very robust network to build its own without running 24X7 show something that consumes too much energy. I was about to order the product however Netgear competitors (JGS524), the Netgear has two fans in the (noisy and prone to failure), where this option as D-Link fan! This is a big deal, because the fan is often the component that will have long-term leave with a product like this ... not the sound you get when you close the device name. The Netgear has a guarantee "for life" (and a better warranty), while the D-Link offers a warranty of 5 years, with no moving parts, and if hooked to the suppression of the peaks of high-quality D-Link box should take a very long time without problems. The performances are excellent with this option, I get rapid transit rockets across all my devices. And 'interesting to note that this is not a switch, if you can not break the network or VLAN to diagnose cable, etc., with this option. For its purpose if a network to provide super-fast home or small office that offers exceptional value. I highly recommend T! 18 of 18 people found this review helpful. Nice switch, high-speed S. Faulk I had to replace a Linksys that went south after only four months of service. Linksys wanted 5-7 days to replace the switch without rushing to get my system back if I paid a heavy price for delivery during the night and then would be in my office two days. I ordered the D-Link from Amazon, I had my network back up the next morning with super fast delivery from Amazon D-Link has been working perfectly and seems to be a little cooler and calmer after Linksys. This unit replaces our older D-Link 10/100 Switch, which is still working after 6 years +. Absolutely no problems installing or using the switch again - it's very cool, link LED lights and the corresponding ports are easy to identify. Immediately noticed the increased speed on the local network and the connected equipment is also compatible with Gigabit Ethernet. Recommended if you do not need a managed switch. I note that Amazon photo for this unit is incorrect - the photo shown is of a larger unit. Nice and small, but great build quality. Internet performance is stronger than with other switches I've tried over the years. A big plus is that it is not as hot as the others. Good work D-Link another quality product. 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Great little switch - elegant packet switching from D. Dean, I was a small, energy saving search, enabled reliable small 8-port gigabit switch with Auto MDI / MDIX .. and I found it. The unit runs very cool, completely silent, and is eloquent in the background. Before I bought this, I have a Linksys (aka Cisco), TRENDnet, HP, and a few other options for the overall throughput, buffer RAM, power etc Dlink DGS-1008g are at the top of the pack with 16 Gbps Backplane and 11.9 9 million packets per second, which corresponds roughly to 703 gigabit high-speed, which should be around 87.875MBps (megabytes, not bits). See all 67 reviews ....

As I said about his younger brother, who can not go wrong with hoagamaniac After an unfortunate power spike fried 3 of the 8-port switch at my age, I felt the time I need to change, I can improve in the same time. With mobile market expansion, since these bills will be cheaper. Life is good. If you can accommodate wires are hard to beat Mbit / cost provides. This network switch is as easy as her kid brother. Connected, connect the CAT5 cable and is already running. LEDs let you know at a glance if there is any impact or change the speed provides enough performance issues. This to share the DSL connection, play music and video over the network, skip sick and make transferring large files quickly and easy.W With 16 ports, I doubt I will finish the switch any time soon, and I will probably be useful to gigabit network upgrade before then anyway, 12 of 12 people found the following review. Excellent contact for use in the home of Paul S. I just bought this switch and it works great. Here are some of the reasons why I recommend it.Works great, and it is relatively inexpensive. 5 minutes out of the box, and it was up and running. I own several Linksys devices and I do not even problems. It stack with other Linksys devices. I also have a cable / DSL router and switch have the same footprint, so they stuck together. Beware of Linksys 5-port or 8-port switches, they are much smaller and not on a Linksys Cable / DSL router or wireless router stack. The pictures make it look like, but be sure to look at the dimensions of post-run Ethernet cable to the back of the unit. I think it is positive for private use, as it keeps the board less cluttered. You can tell the status of the connection in the front without cables everywhere, like the Netgear switchesHighly recommend this option. 10 of 10 people found this review helpful. Best move for household use by a client had one of these over a year. It 'very reliable, works with all my other devices (including Cisco), and a lot of flashing lights (LEDs). If I could find any new sale of [X] / each, so buy two more. See all 31 customer reviews ....

Unleash the power of high-speed network performance and give your business the additional capacity it needs to support essential applications with the Cisco SG 100-16 16-Port Gigabit Switch, a Cisco Small Business Unmanaged Switch. It’s extremely easy to deploy the switch into a new or preexisting network configuration, giving you a quick path for connecting up to 16 individual devices with wired, Gigabit Ethernet speeds. Increase the size of your network by adding new computers or access points, or expand the reach of your servers and network-attached-storage to remote locations in your business. The switch also builds powerful energy-savings features into your network operations which allow you to reduce your costs and energy usage with one, simple upgrade. 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports on the front of the switch deliver the connectivity and stability that your small business needs demand. The Cisco SG 100-16 16-Port Gigabit Switch avoids complicated installation procedures or technical configurations: It simply works. Uncomplicated Installation You don’t need any additional software or technical configuration in order to deploy the switch in your small business environment. The Cisco SG 100-16 16-Port Gigabit Switch works right out of the box, quickly integrating into a typical small business network without complicated installation procedures or costly network downtime. Transferring files and sharing multimedia elements between systems becomes a reliable, smooth experience for devices connected via the 16-port switch. In addition, integrated Quality-of-Service (QoS) control mechanisms work to improve the transfer quality of essential network information–such as video teleconferencing or voice-based transmissions–without sacrificing your business’s ability to perform typical network functions. Energy-Conscious Operation A built-in energy-saving feature allows the switch to reduce your power consumption and related costs without any configuration from an end-user. The switch will automatically enter sleep mode when necessary, turning off unused ports and automatically adjusting its internal power capacity to deliver full support for your connected devices when they need it—and making sure that resources aren’t wasted when they don’t. Quality-of-Service controls ensure that your business's critical network traffic runs high-priority overtop your normal network operations. Rackmount Installation and Visual Troubleshooting If your small business is already set up with a server rack environment, the SG 100-16 16-Port Gigabit Switch will fit directly into your existing infrastructure via an included rackmount kit. Lights on the front of the switch correspond to the network status of its 16 ports. This lets you make a quick visual analysis of your network activity, affording you the opportunity to assess situations that might need troubleshooting. If a device suddenly drops offline or a segment of systems suffers a sudden outage, you’ll be able to isolate the issue simply by looking at the front of the switch. The device also comes with a limited lifetime warranty that gives you peace-of-mind assurance and helps prevent costly downtime for your business’s key operations. Quiet and simple Gigabit workgroup switch by the marketing department screwed up royally Scott Hilleque Cisco naming this product. They chose a model number (SR2016T) is a character on a different product (SR2016), which was so awful from customers who had closed down, torn apart. They should be used only have part number (SG 100-16), and left her there. To clear it, this switch has no connection with the Switch Linksys SR2016. The 24-port models differ. My particular need was for a 16-port Gigabit Switch +, which is quiet (silent if possible) and this will take longer, 24x7, completely neglected in a dusty cupboard. This unit is fanless, supply of peace and make it even less likely that deposits of dust, which can lead to overheating suffer. I can not say how well it will perform in the long run, but I'm not worried, because it comes with a lifetime warranty too far I had zero problems. Each device worked in the original key (an SMC8624 re-task), immediately appeared in the 1Gb switch again. Recommended. Note: The product literature is unclear and sometimes contradictory, but the model has a port 16 internal power supply (no wall wart), and comes with a lifetime limited warranty. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Well if you have more ports are not operated by Rick Chin This 16-Port Gigabit Switch is good for small or home use where you want some speed need, but do not require port management. The extenders will support rack-mount or can be wall mounted too. My suggestion for a major change in the product, the "gigabit" LED for each port in a better place. As it stands, the Green Link / Activity LED is based on top of each port and the green indicator on Gigabit top right if you try, you will leave quickly see the status light is right next gigabit link light for the next port above. The key features are good for an unmanaged switch. All ports detect crossover cable, Support QoS tags and switch supports jumbo frames. It has no cooling fan is so quiet there and the need for such air-conditioning and ventilation technology. While ostensibly supporting "green" energy-efficient technology, but there were no details to explain that - just marketing-speak kind of statements. This switch does not provide Power over Ethernet (PoE) on all ports. If you are looking for PoE at least one other manufacturer supplying to 4 PoE ports in an 8-port switch. Someone has probably run about 16 or 24 ports in a port-size if you need this feature, but expect a bigger power supply and fan enough. It's good to see the prices for 16 and 24 port switches are on the way down Hopefully the price switches with management functions will continue even decrease. 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Cisco switch Cisco switch DataMan This replaced a Linksys 24 port switch, Ethernet II, who was 7 years old and just beginning to spoil. It came well packed, very simple interface, we had it running in about 3 minutes. From the outset all computer systems was recognized, and we were back to work in a small office environment. I recommend this device, it is an excellent choice to upgrade from the normal home into something that is made for small businesses with a reasonable price. I will look to their wireless routers to see where we can go from there. See all 15 reviews ....
