D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

The D-Link® 8-port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch (DGS-1008G) provides an excellent solution for expanding your Gigabit network. Gigabit speed is 10 times faster than a 100Mbps Fast Ethernet connection, enabling you to save time transferring bandwidth-intensive music, video, photos, graphic, and data fi les. By sharing the Internet, your users can check e-mail, browse the web, chat with friends and family, and play online games using their own computer. To increase the functionality of your network, you can also add other Ethernet-enabled devices such as a print server, Network-Attached Storage (NAS), and network camera.

The D-Link DGS-1008G 8-port Gigabit Switch is part of a new series of Green devices using D-Link Green technology. Created with the Small or Home Office (SOHO) user in mind, the DGS-1008G saves energy while reducing heat output, providing you a longer product life without sacrificing operational performance or functionality. It provides 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports for fast server deployment to meet increasing network loads. Transfer files over your network at blazing gigabit speeds, with 8 ports providing maximum flexibility (see larger image).   Think Green Combined with an efficient power adapter that is EnergyStar level V qualified, minimized the use of harmful substances (RoHS compliant) in the device and enclosed in recyclable packaging make this switch truly . Conserves Energy The DGS-1008G 8-port Gigabit Switch helps you conserve energy automatically through several methods. It automatically powers down ports that have no link activity, allowing the switch to save energy by cutting power usage for unused ports or ports connected to computers that have been shut down. It can also detect connected cable lengths and adjust power usage accordingly, helping you save energy without effecting networking performance. The 8-port Gigabit Switch was designed with the environment in mind. It is compliant with energy Star level V, as well as with the strict CEC and MEPS regulations that require the use of energy efficient power adapters. The switch is also built to follow RoHS standards to minimize use of hazardous materials, and uses recyclable packaging that helps reduce waste, complying with the WEEE directive.   IEEE 802.1P QoS Quality of Service (QoS) prioritizes network traffic so that time-sensitive data is delivered efficiently, even during bursts of high data traffic. This helps ensure an optimal experience for streaming media, VoIP calls, and online gaming. Cable Diagnostics Function The D-link Cable Diagnostics function enables users to efficiently detect cable conditions through the LED display on the front-panel. Users can determine whether the pin connections of their cables' connectors are correct, facilitating network troubleshooting. Key Features 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports for ultra-fast wired connectivity Up to 1 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth per port and up to 2 Gbps bandwidth in full-duplex mode* Supports IEEE 802.1p QoS prioritization** Jumbo frame support of up to 9000 bytes Cable diagnostics function Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover for all ports IEEE 802.3x flow control Plug and play installation Supports MAC address learning Wall mountable 24/7 basic installation support Limited lifetime warranty Notes * Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. ** The attached devices must have a Gigabit NIC that supports 802.1p queuing to allow QoS functionality. Nice and small, but great build quality. Internet performance is stronger than with other switches I've tried over the years. A big plus is that it is not as hot as the others. Good work D-Link another quality product. 21 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Great little switch - elegant packet switching from D. Dean, I was a small, energy saving search, enabled reliable small 8-port gigabit switch with Auto MDI / MDIX .. and I found it. The unit runs very cool, completely silent, and is eloquent in the background. Before I bought this, I have a Linksys (aka Cisco), TRENDnet, HP, and a few other options for the overall throughput, buffer RAM, power etc Dlink DGS-1008g are at the top of the pack with 16 Gbps Backplane and 11.9 9 million packets per second, which corresponds roughly to 703 gigabit high-speed, which should be around 87.875MBps (megabytes, not bits). Remember that 1 MB = 125 Gbps throughput. Not all consumers change I found out there that can support this data rate. This is one of the switches highest throughput available in 8-port consumables, and Trendnet with HP second and third (in that order). Developed the perfect box. I made a couple of Cat5e cables and went away. Now if only combine this option with Dlink wireless router and one WAN port! It would be great. Update 06-26-11: Now that I've had time to test it out, I can get about 84-85 megabytes per second transfer rate, beside the numbers I mentioned above. Tested with iperf / jperf with TCP / UDP. Be sure to set all devices to get this jumbo frame throughput. I went into the settings for your network card and changed the packet size default MTU of 9K. Changed my Synology NAS also for 9K. 20 of 21 people found this review helpful Best Switch for money by Richard A. Nathan, this is a fantastic product. It is difficult for some reason to find a good gigabit switch. Most consumers switches are 10/100, not 10/100/1000, and they sell for the same price or more than the D-Link. Before I was with some Dell 2708 switches. They ran smoothly, but are big and heavy (and metal). This product is small, usually plastic, light and run cool. I also like power management. D-Link 5-port switch, half the price, is an excellent value. See all 67 reviews ....
