My house have 3 floors and my router (WRT54G) is located in the basement. I get a signal of 11 Mbps on the sec flr using a centrino powered notebook. The signal would drop to 1 Mbps after some use and the only way to get the signals back is to to reboot the notebook for some reason or go to the first flr. Hence, decided to get this unit and use it as a repeater. Steps that worked for me are as follows: 01. Disable any security you have on the router (I'm using WEP) and enable SSID broadcast prior to any configuration . 02. Configure the unit using the setup disk and provided the ff:. ---- Provided a different SSID (or you can provide the same SSID) with enabled broadcast. ---- No encription ---- The same transmission channel (Chan 11) as with my router ---- New password 03. Exited program setup. Run browser and connect to the AP interface using the default address [...] 04. Configured the AP in REPEATER MODE placing my router's wireless MAC address as the repeated source signal. 05. Saved the setup. 06. Test if working by removing the wire behind the AP. On your PC/Notebook, open up a command window (START,RUN, type in "cmd" and click [OK]). Type in "ping 192.168.1.245" and press [ENTER]. You should see something like "Reply from 192.168.1.245 bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=225". If you get a "Request timed out." then that means your AP cannot be seen in your network and was not configured successfully go through STEP#1 again. 07. If successful, you need to enable security back (NOTE: At this point, the AP is running stand alone with no wires connected at the back from the router). Since I'm using WEP, connect to the AP using a browser at [...] Go to wireless security and enable WEP and add the key codes and save your setup. 08. Now enable security back on the router with same key as you have on the AP and save your setup. 09. Test connection again by running STEP#6. 10. Place the AP where you want it to. 11. With a wireless PC/Notebook, scan for wireless networks. You should see the new SSID as well as the old one. Connect to it so that your PC/Notebook would save that information. 12. Connect to your AP, disable SSID broadcast, save setup. 13. Connect to your roter, disable SSID broadcast, save setup. 14. You're done! I placed the WAP54G on the third floor. After all is said and done, my signal was boosted to 45 Mbps (max at 54 Mbps). Works like a charm!!! NOTE: - These procedures is specifically if you want to configure your AP as a REPEATER. - If you configure the AP with WEP security on the get go, you will never be able to get it to work!! I spent hours on this to no avail. - You can use the same SSID. I used a different one because I want to see what wireless unit I am connecting to when i transfer from floor to floor. UPDATE 031810 The unit I believe is starting to die on me. My internet access will get cut off all of a sudden and it has been happening frequently (like 4-5 times a week). I have to unplug then plug it back to make it function again. I might upgrade my system to the WRT610N and WAP610N soon. UPDATE 033110 I decided to get a new WAP54G instead since reading through the WAP610N manual, there is no provision for a REPEATER mode. I placed the old one on the first floor. So now, I have the WRT54G on the basement, my old WAP54G on the first floor and my new WAP54G (with a NETGEAR 5 port switch connected to it) on the 3rd floor. I noticed that with the new one, my web browsing is a lot faster compared to the old one! UPDATE 041110 So I had the NEW WAP54G for a couple of days since my last update and I still had the same problem of getting disconnected intermittently. I tried shutting down the OLD unit totally but the issue persists with the new unit so it looks like the AP is not the problem. Now, my IPOD TOUCH 32GB 3Gen needed

Amazon.com Product Description The Linksys A+B dual-band wireless broadband router is like four devices in one box. The router function lets you securely share one high-speed Internet connection among your entire network, while the four-port, full-duplex 10/100 Mbps switch jump-starts your wired Ethernet network. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. The router also contains two wireless access points, which let you connect with wireless networked PCs using either the popular 2.4 GHz 802.11b standard at 11 Mbps, or the almost five-times-faster 5 GHz 802.11a standard. Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b equipment today, and migrate to the 802.11a standard as your needs grow. In addition to up to 152-bit encryption of wireless transmissions, the A+B dual-band wireless broadband router supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router also serves as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility. Since they don't require cables, you can use the devices anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. There's no need to roll out an Ethernet network cable to each room of a house; you can network anywhere--without wires. Outside the home, wireless networking is available in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, and airports--great when you're on the road and need to get some work done. For convenience, wireless networking is the answer. Which Wireless Standard Is Right for Me? Now that you've decided to create a wireless network, the next step is to figure out which wireless standard to use. Basically, a standard is a set of specifications for a device. All devices that follow a specific standard share operating characteristics, such as the radio frequency used and maximum data transfer speed. For wireless networking, there are three standards to choose from at this time: 802.11b 802.11a 802.11g To learn about the differences between the standards and select the right one for your network, click here for an easy-to-understand chart. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. The Dual-Band Wireless A+B Router also contains two Wireless Access Points, which let you connect with wireless-networked PCs using either the popular 2.4GHz, 802.11b standard at 11Mbps, or the new, almost five times faster, 5GHz, 802.11a standard. Using the 802.11A radio, we've experienced nothing but lockups. The router locks up which then locks up the computers attached to the point the keyboard and mouse do not respond. With the cards set for ad-hoc and the router unplugged, the network runs fine. Three months of constant contact with Tech Support has netted us repeated canned responses that do not resolve the issue. Please, do not buy this product. I am a certified network engineer with 12 years experience. I tried more possible solutions than Linksys script monkeys can offer. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This LINKSYS product is the worst networking product ever By Jonathan Locke This thing crashes and reboots every 10-15 minutes. In case you are thinking you'll just upgrade the firmware, LinkSys has not provided a firmware update to date. I've been working with computers and networking equipment for more than 25 years and never seen anything this bad. DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER!!! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very bad wireless experience By A Customer Do you want to spend 3 hours on the phone with India tech support restarting your computer, upgrading firmware levels, cycling your DSL modem and being fed useless platitudes?I did - and eventually decided to return this garbage and go with a different brand. I have a new IBM Centrino XP Pro laptop. When I connected to the router through wireline I could get an internet connection, but as soon as I enabled wireless on the router, my whole network was put out of action. Linksys insisted I must have a problem with the laptop, but it works fine when I connect to T-Mobile at Starbucks. Reading some of the other product reviews it is clear to me that Linksys has some serious problems with their wireless products.Shame, I bought my first Linksys product back in 1999, and I used to love the brand. Cisco PAP2 Phone Adapter for Vonage Internet Phone Service
The Linksys Phone Adapter enables high-quality feature-rich telephone service through your cable or DSL Internet connection. Just plug it into your home Router or Gateway and use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your existing phones or fax machines. Each phone jack operates independently, with separate phone service and phone numbers -- like having two phone lines. With an appropriate Internet telephone service provider, youll get clear telephone reception and reliable fax connections, even while using the Internet at the same time for normal data operations.

For example, you can receive your voicemail as an email attachment, and you'll have a phone number that travels with you. Visit http://www.vonage.com/amazon to see which plan is best suited to your lifestyle and budget. The low monthly rates are quite reasonably priced, in our opinion, and with them you may save considerably compared to traditional phone service. International calls are available for additional low fees, with one economical exception: calls from the U.S. to Canada are treated like domestic long distance calls, rather than international. Vonage also supports short-form emergency 911 services, where available. (Dialing 911 requires activation and operates differently than traditional 911. See Vonage's website for details.) This Vonage Internet Phone Service Starter Kit is quick and easy to install in your home or business. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL modem) and a touchtone phone. Setup is simple: Just connect one end of the included Vonage-certified Linksys PAP2 phone adapter to your Ethernet router or gateway and the other end to your telephone. Then sign up for Vonage phone service. An extra port on the adapter allows you to attach an additional phone or fax machine. You'll have instant access to both phone lines, each with a separate number, and you can even assign them different area codes (subject to availability). You can still surf the web while talking on the phone or receiving faxes. The phone adapter includes a generous three-year warranty from the manufacturer. You'll get unlimited calling to the USA and Canada for only $24.99 per month. Calling plans start at only $14.99 per month. A lot of the reviews on here have been for the Vonage service. The Linksys PAP2 is NOT THE Vonage service, but one of many adapters you can use. I am extreamly satisfied with my Linksys PAP2. It is small, light weight, and perfect for those who need to travel. The voice quality is excellent and people say I do not sound like I am talking over VOIP. There is no line noise, static, popping, etc. I am giving this product 4 stars. Why? Because there is only ONE ethernet port. If you have a router, just connect the PAP2 to one of your available ethernet ports and you are good to go. If you do not have a router, consider getting another Vonage phone adapter with built in 4-port router. There are several. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Linksys PAP2 Works Great! Vonage service is another thing. By T and L We have had our Linksys PAP2 Vonage phone adapter for over a year and never have had a problem with it. Its too bad people are reviewing Vonage's "service" vs Linksys' "product" in these reviews. I've never done anything but plug the adapter in and it works like a charm! Good job Linksys! 120 of 151 people found the following review helpful. Good Value with a lot of features, but... By F1 Nut I've been wanting to switch from traditional phone service (Verizon) to VoIP (Vonage) for a while, and I jumped in with the release of the Linksys products. Here's what I really, really like about the Vonage service: Setup is a breeze, and PAP2 is diminutive, so if you are travelling to a location with broadband service, you can take the box with you to make/receive calls. In addition, the Vonage service is full of features that are either not available from the local telco, or would cost a small fortune every month. As much as I like the service, it does have drawbacks and limitations that you should be aware of: * Power or Broadband outages - If you lose power, or your broadband service is unavailable, you will not have phone service. Even though Vonage can ring your cell phone if this were to occur, this fallback can take up to 4 hours (per the Vonage website). * 911 Service - Unlike most VoIP services, Vonage *does* offer 911 service. However, you must register, and when/if you dial 911, your call is routed to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in your area, and unlike traditional 911, the PSAP will note have access your location/address. * Tivo & Modems - Although you most likely will never use a modem when you have broadband access, if you have a Tivo that only has a modem, you may have problems getting the Tivo to make its Daily Call. This is the major issue I have with Vonage. I tried all the "tricks," and even bought a DSL filter, with no luck. I like my Tivo more than Vonage, so I'll be cancelling Vonage and going back to my local telco. * Phone Number & Caller ID - If you have Vonage assign a new phone number to you (instead of porting your existing telco number), when you dial others from your Vonage phone, they will not see your Name on their Caller ID, only your phone number. Of the above points, only the Tivo compatibility issue keeps me from switching to Vonage. You should also note that the Linksys PAP2 *requires* a broadband router. If you do not have a router, you should buy the Linksys RT31P2, which is both a router, and a VoIP/Vonage device in one box. See all 112 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 89 of 94 people found the following review helpful. ****HOW TO PROPERLY SETUP A WRT610N ROUTER**** By Juan C. Cruz Pros: Great speed. Wireless is only less than 5% slower than ethernet connection. USB link port is very solid. Cons: Not designed for people who want plug & play devices with no knowledge of networking. I will agree with a lot of people regarding people that stated that this router is no good. Those people do not know what they're doing. I bought a REFURBISHED version 1... and it works perfect. After reading so many bad reviews, I had the feeling that all refurbished WRT610Ns were probably from people who didn't know how to get it to work properly. ****HOW TO PROPERLY SETUP A WRT610N ROUTER**** 1) Download the latest firmware to your computer from Linksys' website. Do this even before you receive your WRT610N. Reading all the comments about the firmware, I didn't even bother trying the stock firmware. 2) Upon receiving the router, plug in the power cable and plug it into the AC outlet. No CAT5 cables yet. Once it powers up, hold the reset button for a few seconds until the power light starts to blink. Release the reset button. 3) Once it powers up completely, plug your computer to the router with a CAT5 cable. Log into the router. Upload the new firmware. 4) After the upload is complete, unplug the power cable from the router, wait a few seconds, then plug it back it. This is to be assure the load was good. 5) Wireless configurations: #1 Rule: Do not use auto on both G and N. Set 2.5Ghz band for B-G only and to a certain channel (6 or 11 works best). And set 5Ghz band for N only. #2 Rule: Do not use the same encryption on both G and N. Set different encryption methods (example., WPA2 for G, WEP for N) 6) Disconnect the CAT5 cable, and try connecting to the N-wireless (do not connect to G. this is for testing purposes) Once your pc connects to the N network wirelessly, log into the router wirelessly. 7) 5Ghz in its nature is a sensitive frequency. The higher the frequency, the weaker the signal gets... but also gets faster. With that said, the 5Ghz N portion needs to be tweaked to what works best. - On your computer, open up the Wireless Network Connection Status window. Leave this window open at all time so you can see the connection speed (If you have more than one pc with wireless N, do the same thing). - Log into the router via wireless N. Go to Wireless Advanced section. Band: do not set AUTO on the band. Start off with 40Mhz. From there, pick the first channel (44 or something like that). - Now check the speed(s) of the pc connection(s). Try out ever 40Mhz band until you find the best speed. If no band is solid, then result to 20Mhz. Once most solid and fastest speed is achieved, save the configs. COMPLETE! USB Link: The USB link worked great. But there are some pointers. I tried two harddrives. 320GB 5400RPM SATA and 320GB 7200RPM SATA. Both were clones of each other; clean NTFS formatted with nothing but videos and music. I would recommend to edit SHARE and click on SHARE ENTIRE PARTITION. It seems much more fluid with that on. Ok, after I named my drive, shared the whole partition, and clicked on access rights, I mapped the drive to each computer to test the stability and speed. I did have a problem with my music folder that had 355 sub-folders (individual albums); it would randomly see all 355 folders. It would see 210, then 340, the 290, etc. It was a strange behavior. Since both harddrives were clones of each other, I formatted one harddrive using the Linksys Router function. It formatted the drive to NTFS FAT2. First time I've used FAT2. After I copied the contents back to the drive, I tested it again. It actually finds the files much faster than before. Don't know why. I haven't had a problem with missing folders either. Everything is found instantly. So I would highly recommend to format using the Linksys Router function. I did test out between 5400rpm and 7200rpm to

Security To help maintain a secure wireless network, the DAP-2553 provides the latest in wireless security technologies by supporting both Personal and Enterprise versions of WPA and WPA2 (802.11i) with support for RADIUS server backend. To further protect your wireless network, MAC Address Filtering, Wireless LAN Segmentation, Disable SSID Broadcast, Rogue AP Detection, and Wireless Broadcast Scheduling are also included. The DAP-2553 includes support for up to 4 VLANs for implementing multiple SSIDs to further help segment users on the network. It also includes a wireless client isolation mechanism, which limits direct client-to-client communication. Multiple Operation Modes To maximize total return on investment, the DAP-2553 can be configured to optimize network performance based on any one of its multiple operation modes: Access Point, Wireless Distribution System (WDS) with Access Point, WDS/Bridge (No AP Broadcasting) and Wireless Client. With WDS support, network administrators can set up multiple DAP-2553s throughout a facility and configure them to bridge with one another while also providing network access to individual clients. Also included are advanced features such as Load Balancing, which optimizes high network traffic volume, and redundancy for fail-safe wireless connectivity. Additionally, the DAP-2553 offers Spanning Tree Protocol support for greater efficiency and to avoid broadcast storms when used in WDS mode. Network Management Network administrators have multiple options for managing the DAP-2553 including Web (HTTP), Secure Sockets Later (SSL, which provides for a secure connection to the Internet), Secure Shell (SSH, which provides for a secure channel between local and remote computers), and Telnet (bi-directional, eight-bit byte oriented communications facility). For advanced network management, administrators can use the D-Link AP Manager II or D-View SNMPv3 management module to configure and manage multiple access points from a single location. In addition to a streamlined management process, the AP Manager II or D-View software provides network administrators with the means of verifying and conducting regular maintenance checks remotely, eliminating the need to send personnel out to physically verify proper operation. With the selectable dual band functionality, PoE support, extensive manageability, versatile operation modes, and solid security enhancements, the new D-Link AirPremier N Dual Band PoE Access Point (DAP-2553) provides SMB environments with a business-class solution for deploying a wireless network in the workplace. * Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11g, 802.11a, and 802.11n specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range.

Corning This would easily be a 5-star product with some minor improvements to setup documentation and configuration screens. Pros: * Great wireless range * Compact design * Reasonably fast re-boots as it is configured Cons: * In-box documentation is too skimpy for many people to set it up without a support call * Configuration application lacks the supporting instructions supplied by other manufacturers (NetGear) * A little pricey - but performance makes up for it I use a LinkSys router in my home network, which has a default IP of 192.168.1.1. The DAP-2553 uses a default IP of 192.168.0.50, so have to change its IP to one that uses 192.168.1.x for it to work, and the in-box documentation does not tell you how do do this. Fortunately, D-Link's excellent product support got me going in a few minutes, and without grilling me about the product serial number or when I had purchased it (NetGear's support is a pain). If you're setting up one of these on a LinkSys network, here's what you'll need to do: * Connect your DAP-2553 directly to a computer using the enclosed Ethernet cable (with your computer's WiFi turned off) * Manually set your computer's IP address to 192.168.0.54 (Go to Control Panel | Network | Change Adapter Settings, then right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Select Internet Protocol 4, then Properties, then Use the following IP address. Put in IP, leave Subnet mask at 255.255.255.0, and set Default gateway to 192.168.0.50 to reach your DAP-2553). Hit OK. * Open a browser and point it to 192.168.0.50 * Log in using the DAP-2553's supplied login info, and go to Basic Settings | LAN * Set IP address to 192.168.1.50 (this puts it on the map for your LinkSys router) * Set the default gateway to your LinkSys router's address - probably 192.168.1.1 * Select Apply * Remember to re-set your computer's IP address back to DHCP, or whatever it was before (Assuming you were using DHCP - Go to Control Panel | Network | Change Adapter Settings, then right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Select Internet Protocol 4, then Properties, then Obtain an IP address automatically). Hit OK. * Disconnect your DAP-2553 from the computer and connect the DAP-2553 into your network. * If it works, you should now find your DAP-2553 at 192.168.1.50 and be able to finish wireless configuration to your preferences. * Rejoice. Standard disclaimers apply. Good luck. 26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Great Bargin AP with POE By GMW I have a 4,000 Square foot home, and was having numerous issues with 2.4GHZ wireless. Since I ran Cat6e in my house to all my current phone outlets, I really needed an 5GHZ AP that could receive power via Ethernet (POE)and that was not too costly. I looked at Cisco, but for $800, it is just too much. I picked up two of these DLink's for $300. I must say, for the features and performance, this is a Great product. I am now utilizing 802.11N in my house over 5GHZ band, and it works flawlessly. I have one AP in my basement and the other is in my master bedroom. By having both devices, I can be anywhere in my house and on my front porch and always have a strong signal. The easy to use web interface only took me at most 15 minutes to setup both devices. Easy manageability with built in QoS and WPA2 Security. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs just the feature of multiple or single AP's without the use of having a router also. 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Great 5GHZ Access Point By Kevin from IL I have a DIR-655 running a 2.4GHZ 802.11N network in my home, as all wireless networks you share the bandwidth with all other clients attached to that AP or router in my case. I wanted to seperate my home AV and my PS3 (it's good to be the admin) from the same network that my kids use for streaming

It doesnt looks like a Linksys product By Jose Pineda Ramirez I bought this router on last november, the startup was ok, i was replacing my old and great linksys wrt54gs, some minutes after using it, i lost all connections, when i check the router, i was very hot, and all the setup returns to factory default, i repeat al the setup process, but after some minutes it happens again. On january Linksys published a firmware update, i applyed this firmware, the router starts working better, after 10 days all connections came out LAN and Wireless, the temperature of the router was ok, but all setup returns to factiry default. I contacted Linksys support and check that there is a lot of people with the same problem, Linksys support indicates that there is no estimation for a new firmware release, they give a ticket numbre to return and exchange my router, this would be ok if i am in the US and have access to return it to Amazon, since i am out the US i am feeling really bad bacause of a bad product delivered to the market. So i will wait for the next firmware update, or DD_WRT that is working on an alternate firmware version. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This thing is a beast By D. Lanning Hi Guys. First off I do want to point out that Linksys/Cisco has updated the firmware on this badboy to address the overheating issues. They have also moved forward to supply a second revision to this router (V2) which deals better with these issues and also greatly extends range and throughput of signals. Currently I am using this as a conduit for all my network activity. I work heavily with very large H264 encoded files so I need a very fat internal pipe to get this data back and fourth. With this thing I am getting 12MB/s throughput to a mac located on the other side of 18" thick firewalling. I have never seen a stronger signal in my life when it comes to transmission rates. Internal rates are amazing as are the hard wire gigabit connections. The only con I would say would be that this USB connection can not be used as a printer connection ( that I know of ) and the filesystem support for USB NETDISK support only allows for FAT32 partition. This FAT32 is really the standard for network mounts - I would just be happier seeing something like EXT3 support here or even MACOS support as I have all sorts of uses I will be throwing at this thing. The only comperable router on the market is sold by mac for roughly the same price so make your comparisons before buying. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Only lasted 11 months By KarlS I've been using this wireless router for about eleven months, but for the past two months it's been very unreliable. When it runs, it does pretty well. Its range is much better than the wireless-G LinkSys router it replaced. With this router sitting on top of my desktop PC in a room on the second floor of our house, the signal picked up in the basement two floors away is usually 70%-80% strength. I don't have anything with a 5GHz adapter, so I can only comment on my experiences with the 2.4GHz freq radio. This WRT610N would run fine for weeks at a time, and then for no reason, it would drop signal, (confirmed by none of the other three PCs in the house could detect its signal). Most times it would recover when I pulled out its power cord and let it reset itself, but sometimes it would not recover wireless capability for hours or days once it went dead. (The PC this router is sitting on is hard-wired to it, so I always had at least one PC using its Gigabit connectivity to my cable modem to the outside world). I experimented with other brand firmware, and also experimented with cooling it with a fan to see if this was heat-related, but I was never able to conclude what was causing the random signal drops. LinkSys tech support was not helpful, and the LinkSys web site forums only had postings from others with the

By squashpup I hate this device with every fiber of my being. Clearly the worst computer related device ever created since the beginning of computer history and quite possibly the worst consumer product of all time. Yup, it's that bad. Every morning when I get up, I have to reset this thing, because it hardly ever makes it through the night holding a connection. All sorts of things make it lose connection. Connecting to multiple computers makes it lose connection. Long idle periods make it lose connection. Ever so slight power blinks make it lose connection. And seemingly, presence of oxygen makes it lose connection. The worst thing you can do is what I did...set this router up with stairs between your primary computer and the router. Or, it could be the best, depending on the level of exercise you require in your life. Last year, I was able to participate in a 10K run, thanks in large part to my involuntary stair training regimen. Honestly, it got so bad that I installed a Handy Switch Wireless Light Switch; one of those wireless switches that you can use to control lights or whatever that plug into the wall. Now, when it locks up (every 13.6 minutes), I reach under the end table where I installed the switch and reset it. (Thanks, Billy Mays!) This has made living with the WRK54G a little more tolerable, but has added another $15 in operating costs that could have been used to buy a REAL router. Every so often, I try again to run encryption on the WRK54G. Everything works as well as can be expected for a few months, then the WRK54G suddenly refuses to allow anything to connect, even with the correct passcode. Nothing makes any difference, even trying another computer still results in no connection with the router. At that point the only thing to do is disable encryption entirely or stop using wireless. After about a week, I can once again enable encryption, with the EXACT same password, and magically, all computers hook to it just fine. WHY???? Rarely do I take so adamant a stance in recommending against a product, but Linksys has destroyed my enjoyment of computing, so I will be very honest about this. If you're thinking about the WRK54G, instead, try to find a Carrot Top DVD (such as Chairman of the Board) and put that in your DVD player on Repeat. Turn the volume up all the way and tape your eyes open. You'll come out far cheaper and still not be as aggrivated as you would buying the WRK54G. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Arnold I received this router from family member after they didn't need it anymore. We had a wired house that never had issues. After installing this router, with CD mind you, it was setup, and I secured the internet connection as per an agreed upon vote in the house. At first, the dis-connects were not much often. Around once an hour, un-plug and plug back in. Reset. That was 1 wired connection, and 1 wireless connection. Recently though, I have added the Wii and PS3 wireless connection. Now. The disconnects are every 10-20 minutes... These disconnects are not JUST internet. Its like the Router has crashed internally. I can't access the control panel, the network, or internet... I am seriously ready to take the thing to a wall. I am, also, very disappointed in LinkSYS. I

Hawk If you've used a Wireless N router that doesn't have a separate G receiver, you'll be aware of the throttling that occurs when you're trying to use your uberfast N connection at the same time a G devices is accessing the router. Not ideal for households that have multiple devices of different bands. I went from a Netgear G series router to this, and it's night and day. File transfer of 9GB via wireless N took 14 minutes - all the while I was able to surf the internet and stream video with zero lag - couldn't even tell I was sending anything other than my HD churning. Range is good, and multiple devices of different frequencies can connect with no bog or lag. Previously it seemed that more than 2 devices connected to my old Netgear would cause a network slowdown. Tons of features, the QoS and media streaming features are great too if you have a file server that you wirelessly stream video to your TV (which I do) - HD 1080p video is streamed with no lag, and again, no performance hit on web surfing at the same time. Super happy with this - runs cool as well, has cool power and security options (i.e. you can set it to turn wireless on at a certain time, so it's off all day when your at work) - tons of stuff. Buy it. Edit: Speed tip - for some reason these are set default (at least on firmware 1.0 which is all that's out when I'm writing this) @ 20Mhz for WMM (Wireless Multimedia)- set this to 20/40Mhz (Auto) and it is bit more snappy. Also for streaming, enable Multicast. If you want to see all the features, Dlink has an emulator setup, just Google DIR-815 Emulator, and you'll find it. Second edit: Another review mentions he is unable to setup two separate SSID's for a G, and an N network - I have not had this problem, and do indeed have two separate SSID's, so my N's connect to the N's, and my G's connect to my G's. I should also mention this will NOT speed your internet up in anyway - seems to be some confusion about that. I suppose if you had a 20/30Mbps pipe to your house it would make a difference, but that's fairly rare - most residential services are running 6-12Mbps, which G can handle easily. It will increase your wireless networks range, and your internal file transfer speeds by about 10x, and as I've mentioned, doesn't bog when you're doing multiple things on the wireless channel. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Easy config...poor performance. By R. Nocchi We purchased this router to replace an older Dlink router. I have been using Dlink routers and access points for years, so I am very familiar with (and like) their user interface. We use DSL and have a mix of wireless and wired devices. Our router is set up in the kitchen and we have a wireless access point (DAP-1522) in the living room. As soon as we got this set up we began to have issues. The new Dlink modem and DAP-1522 would not communicate. In addition, our Internet slowed to a crawl and we began to get numerous time out errors. This isn't limited to the Internet either, as trying to connect to the router is sometimes painfully slow. I have spent a few hours adjusting the router configuration to no avail. My next step is to call customer service. My previous experience with Dlink equipment has been all positive. Unfortunately, this router is bucking the trend. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Awesome! By Nick The D-Link DIR-815 is, simply put, awesome. I have it on the top floor of our three-story home and I get a full strength signal in our basement. It has four ports for all your gear and, because it's 802.11n, it broadcasts in both 2.4ghz and 5ghz ranges. The software that comes with the DIR-815 is PC only, but I was able to plug it into my Mac and get it set up with the router's built in web interface admin software. That software will let you do just about anything you can

Happy Customer By Maxxo EASE OF SETUP My wife has no clue on how to use these kinds of products and has little to none knowledge on computers and setting up a Router. And I was expecting to come home and set it up myself but instead I got a text message saying she just got done setting it up and that its working great! To my disbelief I asked if she did it and she said that the CD and instructions that came with it were so easy to understand that she had her first success with installing something. (well of course I had to tweak it to my liking but it just shows the ease of setup) SPEED AND QUALITY I've had a Belkin wireless router for the last 4 years. It's been a fantastic router, but it's been showing its age lately. I shopped around and bought the Linksys E3000 since it was gigabit and had dual simultaneous bands reaching 450 mbps. I am not sure where Cisco got those numbers from because I was never able to reach those numbers - either wired or wireless. Performance was so bad that even streaming movies from my NAS seemed to stress the router out requiring frequent reboots. I did some more research and found the Medialink Router (ASIN: B0044YU60M) and the reviews are absolutely wonderful but then I found the Tenda router and it look identical to the MediaLink router (the Medialink is 150mps and this one has 300mps) and the Tenda was a lot cheaper. Eventually - I the risk buying a product without reviews and settled on this little beauty. It cost me a Fifth of what I paid for the E3000, didn't have gigabit or dual-n, but what it did have was rock solid stability, easy and simple to setup AND fast. I know the E3000 supposedly has better specs than this router - but let me assure you - this baby knocks the E3000 out of the park. Perhaps the E3000 I bought was defective - but honestly - this router killed the E3000. And it's been going strong for the last 1 week with 0 reboots. Trust me - this one is a keeper! BOTTOM LINE PROS: - Great price - Easy setup - Multiple modes available - Solid, nice looking hardware with internal antenna - Has the speed of 300mps - Small palm size design CONS: - I didn't find this unit 4 years sooner. Overall, in this price range this is a Winner Thank you. See all 1 customer reviews...

Good Product/Good Seller By rnaiukow Set-up was a bit dicey as there weren't really any instructions and the disc that came with it didn't work. However, we did some google searches for set-up directions, made a call to a techie friend and had it up and running in a little over an hour. Sent an email to the seller and they promptly responded but we'd figured it out at that point. Haven't had one problem with it since. Thanks so much!!! See all 1 customer reviews...

I have 5 of them...worst mistake I have made in many years. Ports lock up only way to get them back is to reset the switch all 48 devices go offline (really bad), the printers come back well enough, but then the phone calls from users telling me they can't connect to network resources and my SOP.. logoff or restart your machine. The network traffic monitor (LOL) I turned it off ... Spoke with tech support numerous times, please check firmware updates, please check cables and so on.. Soon I will have to eat the bullet and tell my boss we have to replace them. Maybe I can tie them all together and use as a boat anchor or maybe get a tax deduction and contribute them to the artificial reef project! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. factory is defective By Guevara Caporella Victor I purchased a few months ago. After a few days of being online, any large amount of traffic on the switch will cause it to start dropping packets like crazy - our up/down network monitor go nuts with timeouts. After this happens, attempting to connect any new devices to the switch fails. The lights light up on the switch, but in the GUI the port is inactive and although the machine connected can tell there is a link, no data will pass through the port. This situation can be resolved by rebooting the switch (terrible solution). Definitely not ever buying or recommending these again - go for the real Cisco stuff, or choose another brand... 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. AVOID this switch unless you want problems By reasonable person We have had this product slightly more than a year (just out of customer support period...wouldn't you know) we have to reboot the unit ranging from once a day to once a month for the following two problems. 1) the switch will turn itself into a hub, not a switch, i.e., it will begin to broadcast ALL traffic to ALL ports. Just try to keep your network secure when your switch is sending everyones IMAP requests to every machine on the network 2) the switch decides to simply shut down ports until it is rebooted.of course cisco has discontinued the switch rather than fix the problems so no firmware updates are available to resolve these issues.AVOID THIS SWITCH See all 5 customer reviews...

Cisco-Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router
Linksys Ultra RangePlus, Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.

Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G, -A, and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds much faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band. Since the Router can operate in both the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz radio bands at the same time, it effectively doubles your available wireless bandwidth. For instance, you could set up your network to handle video streaming on one radio band, and use the other band for simultaneous data transfer--avoiding any interference or collisions that would degrade the video performance. To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. The incredible speed of Wireless-N and gigabit wired networking is ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Storage Link Router at the center of your home or office network, you can easily add storage, share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at amazing speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires.

Set different encryption methods (example., WPA2 for N, WEP for G) 6) Disconnect the CAT5 cable, and try connecting to the N-wireless (do not connect to G. this is for testing purposes) Once your pc connects to the N network wirelessly, log into the router wirelessly. I did test out between

It took me a long time to figure it out since my LAN is fairly complex and contains several switches. However, I had 3ea of the Linksys SR20xx 8-port models die on me much faster. Fortunately, those were much easier to find since they just died completely when they went. So, I am not going to purchase any more of the Linksys SR20xx products. I hope that others are more fortunate, but I have had too many of them fail and am now trying D-Link switches. I used to really like Linksys and their hardware used to work forever (or so it seemed). 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. DO NOT BUY By amazon fan Upgraded from a stable but 10/100 D-Link switch for improved performance. The Linksys switch worked great for 6 months but when I came in to work this morning my network was down. I could not diagnose the problem so my IT guy had to come out and after a couple of hours (at $105/hr) found that 12 or the 16 ports were bad. Amazon WILL NOT HELP after 30 days and sent me to deal with Linksys directly. Unfortunately, only now do I see the bad reviews for this product (too late for me) but hopefully not for you. STAY AWAY. I'm sure Linksys will replace the switch since it's under warranty but I'm know the new one will fail in time as well. Wish I had never upgraded and really wish I had not bought this switch. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Good ... then bad By Savage I purchased the Linksys SR2016 16-port gigabit switch in Feb 2007 and it worked flawlessly through August 2008, when 12 of the 16 ports mysteriously died, taking down my network with it. Others have noted similar problems with this switch - good operation followed by failure - an odd recurring situation for hardware that should be stable for the long term. My past experiences with Linksys products were more favorable than this. I have rated the product 3 stars as an average: Absolutely no problem with set-up or performance for 18 months (5 stars), followed by massive failure (0 stars). This said, I plan to order another SR2016 to replace this one with hopes that my positive experience (of it working well) is not followed by the negative experience of failure I faced with my first purchase of this switch. * * * An addendum: I expected that after 18 months, this switch was out of warranty but called Linksys just to check. Turns out it was under warranty and they are sending me a new replacement .... so customer service gets an A+. The switch should not have failed but the company did stand by its product.
