The RangePlus Wireless Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The access point built into the router uses smart antenna technology to achieve extended range. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, the "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. With MIMO, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are MIMO enabled, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, the RangePlus Wireless Router can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for compatible devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band. To help protect your data and privacy, the router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. By A Conrad Got the Linksys WRT110 because my Netgear WGR614 has been acting funny (will only connect to one wireless device at a time). I chose to do a manual install/configuration of the WRT110 and skipped the disk install completely. Setup the encryption (not WEP, by the way) and other settings, and I had the wireless router working in 10 minutes (it actually took less, but I was tutoring my 17-year old nephew on how to properly install a wireless router, which was why I skipped the disk install version). Afterwards, I searched the available wireless network, found the router SSID, typed in the password for network security (a definite must-do in San Francisco), and I was wirelessly connected! Still connected after 3 days, too. I gave it a 5-star rating because it worked for me out of the box and without the disk installer. No glitches, and the device was current with the latest firmware. The router is on the second level, and I have decent signal (24-54 Mbps) in all the rooms on the same floor, and a stronger signal than the previous g-router on the other floors (18-24 Mbps with WRT110, -vs- 0-12 Mbps with WGR614). Internet is not affected, since my DSL is only 6 Mbps, anyway. I picked the WRT110 over the WRT54G2 to try out the MIMO technology. I will update this review in a few weeks after I've completed my testing. Stay posted. After configuring it as a stand-alone router, I then put it to the test by adding it to my LAN. I have a special configuration, which is a bit more advanced than those of a typical user. I have a D-Link DIR655 (Gigabit Wireless N router) as my DHCP router and is set as N-only mode. I have the WRT110 as wireless-g device hooked to this router which transmits at g-only. "Why do I have two routers, when the DIR655 is backward compatible with G as well as N?" one might ask. The reason I have it with this configuration is because I have three wireless-N devices and four wireless-G devices. The G devices drops the DIR655 down to wireless-g whenever they are wirelessly connected to the DIR655. So, I have a wireless-G router hooked to the DIR655, the wireless-G computers are connected to the WRT110 and the N devices are connected to the DIR655, and all the devices are working to my preference. Update: After having this router for a week, it has stood up to the test and consistenly maintained its connection. My test is basically to bring two laptops (both wireless-G) one floor up and on the other side of the house where the router is located. Both laptops connect fine, and consistently maintain 8-24 Mbps, wheras connection with the old router is still hampered and drops connection every now and then. So either the MIMO function works as noted, or this is just a better router all together. I do not have the WRT54G2 to compare (with and without MIMO), but I'll try to get my hands on those and do a side-by-side comparison. UPDATE 2 (2009-11-02): After having this router for over a year, I am still surprisingly very pleased with it. I say "surprisingly" because the reviews for this router on Amazon.com is all over the board. I may have been one of the lucky ones with this router, because 1) I have never lost connection (wired or wireless) with this router, 2) I have never had to restart (in fact, I completely forgot I had this router, since I am running two different wireless routers), and 3) it is small enough to fit on top of a cabinet so that I don't see it. I have three computers (two notebooks, one desktop) connected wirelessly, and two wired PC computers (acting as file servers). It has worked so well for me that I bought one for my father-in-law, and one for my brother. After I set up their WRT110 routers, they have reported NO problems thus far (a year coming up in December). Overall, I am VERY pleased with this router, and fully deserves the initial 5-star rating I gave it. UPDATE 3

The wording using Cisco in the text caught my eye and made me more confident making the choice. When I got it, there were problems in the interface that I had called tech support (Linksys not Cisco) about and they confirmed those bugs and said someone will contact me about fixing them. I then had some problems setting up static routing for layer 3 vlans. I called and got the same lady in tech support (in Asia). She said that she really didn't know much about vlans and tried to leave it at that. Vlan support is the only reason someone would spend $1,000 for a switch. Otherwise, you can buy an unmanaged switch for $100. She said that she will have someone at cisco give me a call. I waited for a week and never got a call back on either instance. She told me that I would have to wait patiently. I waited another week. This was nonsense. Finally, a week later I got an email from a guy at Cisco saying that he would call me in another week. Well the window of opportunity was closing fast on being able to return the product and I did not have a week. I emailed him back and waited 3 days for a reponse which I never got so I returned the switch. He finally called 2 weeks later...thanks alot...too little and too late. I ended up buying a hp procurve with complete instructions and it seems to setup fine so far....almost finished. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. SGE2000 - great l3 switch - easy to use By Joshua brimdyr I have bought several of these switches and use them both as standalone and stacked switches. Great price, great product, best feature set for price/speed, easy to maintain. The only annoyance is that some of the ones I have bought have to be converted to standalone mode via a modem cable (included). See all 2 customer reviews...

I express caution with regard to critical purposes such as servers and IP telephony; we have experienced some weird problems with this. We have three (Netgear FS608 v2) in two locations; two connected to a 24 port Dell switch and the third I think connects to a Cisco 3524. They may intermittently refuse to forward frames from just one source to just one destination while allowing frames from that same source to other destination, weird stuff like that. Reset takes a power cycle OR just unplug the uplink cable and reconnect. It's a real nuisance if it means you have to drive to work on a weekend or an IP telephone call goes "blip" into la-la land. I'm sure they have a limitation on the size of the MAC address cache but I have not so far researched it. Beware using little switches on big networks! (That sounds like a grade b movie title!) 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Easy to set up, works great and looks good By dorel_c I was not really a fan of the Netgear, however after the last purchase I may become one. I had an older Linksys 8-port router that worked great for a few years, however after the last storm it stopped working. So I replaced it with a new D-Link router which died just a couple of weeks later. So back to the store, and I got a Netgear Wireless router with a 4-port built in switch (WGR 614) and this 8 port switch, the FS-608 to expand the ports to accommodate all my wired rooms, network printer, backup drive etc The switch itself works great and was very easy to install In fact I would not call it truly installing it as you just plug the cables in any order, and it just works The fact that it looks exactly the same like the router just makes it so much better So far as speed, I am doing quite a bit of e-mailing of large files, printing, run multimedia music and videos, and do backup of large files, all over the network, kids are playing video games on line, and I notice no slow down or any kind of problems with it. Also I asked my children (one teenage one in her 20-s) to come and listen to it, and no one can hear any noise To those who are complaining about problems on cascading the switches, in office environment, may I make a note: When I bought this switch, there were about 20 other kind of switches at prices between $15 to over $200. At one end were no name cheap plastic boxes so light that seemed empty, and at the other end were steel boxes made for rack connection for office applications. I am pretty sure there is got to be a difference between them and a good reason that our company uses rack type switches and routers, and I would too if I could afford them. So if your company is so cheap that they use home office equipment to run a business, then I guess you will have to live with it, and go weekends to reset the switch/routers. But for my house looks like this combination of 8 port switch and 4 port router with wireless, works great. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great affordable switch! By E. Peckham I purchased 3 of these to replace some TRENDnets that weren't compatible with my network. These worked perfectly and they're even quite nice looking! I used these on an old 10BaseT network, so they're plenty fast - I would think that even for a 100BaseT network these would be hard to beat for function and affordability. The only thing I don't like is the mail-in rebate part - I hate mail-in rebates and try to avoid them whenever possible. Companies use them to take advantage of their customers - they're a free source of money for them and they know only about half of deserving customers will go through the rigmarole to send everything in and wait forever for their money. While that spoils the purchase process, it doesn't change the fact that these are great switches. See

Plug the device into a power outlet and Modem, boot up your computer, toss the included disk in, follow a few instructions, and you're set. During the setup, a Router Monitoring program is installed. This gives you quick and easy access to options should you wish to access more advanced setings. It is not necessary if you stick to the default. I had previously attempted to installing a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH, which was highly recommended to me by friends who have used it successfully. After nearly pulling out all my hair, I ended up returning the device. For some reason the wireless signal would not detect properly. I returned it as recommended by Buffalo support and tried another. Same issue, so I sent the second back as well. From there I went with a D-Link DIR-655. It took some tweaking and manual channel switching before it would work, but at least it worked. After hooking up the Belkin N150, I was amazed to see that, after following the setup instructions, it was up and running! I successfully connected my MyTouch 4G phone, iPad 2, and Gateway laptop. I didn't have to tweak anything. Oddly enough it also had a stronger signal than my D-Link DIR-655 (which has three antennas). All the devices gave me 4bars at the farthest location in the house, where the D-Link DIR-655 often moves down to three or lower. Out of curiosity, I checked the internet speed between the Belkin N150 and D-Link DIR-655. The D-Link DIR-655 gave me a download speed of 7414kbps with a 1417kbps upload speed. The Belkin N150 gave me a 8785kbps download speed with a 1140kbps upload speed (I used the integra Telecom speed test and have Comcast as my internet provider). This tells me that their internet speed is pretty much the same, as the speed tests in general tend to fluctuate a bit. One negative about the Belkin N150 is that the LAN ports on the back are only 10/100 whereas the D-Link DIR-655 is 10/100/1000. That said, for the price, I was extremely impressed with the Belkin N150 and will be recommending it to friends and family who are looking for a good buy. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Not perfect for everyone, but certainly easier to install than most wireless routers By Andrea L. Polk I've been using this router: Cisco-Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Broadband Router for the past five years, with a few problems relating to security settings, installation and reliability. Thus, I was nervous to mess with a home network that was 'currently' working well, but when the Amazon Vine program offered me the chance to try out the Belkin N150 Wireless N Router I thought I'd give it a go. This router promised an easy installation, and as I have experience many difficult ones, I knew I'd know if it truly was 'easy' or not. INSTALLATION: One of the negatives for this product was immediately apparent - poor setup directions. Yes, if you can look at a picture and figure things out, you'll get the gist, but it's not what I would call clear. The manual is on the included CD, but since that's step 3 according to the minimal instructions, you'd not know that by just a glimpse. Following the pictures it's a plug things in; AC to the wall and into the back of the router, with 10/100 connections (4 of them) on the back of the router and one marked 'modem', being self explanitory. Since this is the low-end of the Belkin offerings, don't expect anything fancy, but in truth, that may be why this is as close to a plug n' play router as any I've ever seen. That ease of use is its biggest selling point to me. Once the router is plugged in, it's time to put the enclosed CD in the computer's drive. The set-up seems to finish quickly - 3 minutes or so - and then comes to a screen that says 'Click to Get Connected'. From there the router attempts to connect with your modem. Mine is the

By Rick Spiegel Signifiant changes have occurred over the life of this switch. Version 1 had an internal fan and was quite noisy, albeit cool running. Version 2 & 2.1 eliminated the fan. However capacitor C251, sitting next to an internal heatsink is prone to failure after 6 - 8 months, resulting in dropped packets and link connections. Version 3.0 has solved this problem with a complete re-layout of the printed circuit board (PCB), with a redesign of the power/voltage regulation. The new version, still fanless, runs MUCH cooler than version 2.1. 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Version 2.1 is silent, but dead gigabit By Robinson A. Nunez Vargas Bought this switch and received the 2.1 version which is black. It is fanless or at least if it does have fans I don't hear them. Tested it and performance is good getting almost 1Gbit under all conditions (hard disks and other hardware being the limiting factor). Also tested it with jumbo frames and worked OK. Overall good buy, great speed with jumbo frame support at a nice price. Edit: After almost a year, now the swith will no longer negotiate gigabit and only works OK at 100Mbit. This seems to be a widespread problem with version 2.1. And Linksys seems to be slow replacing or repairing these units under their lifetime warranty. Would suggest getting another switch. 16 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Newer version is quiet and better. By Kia I have bought both the old version of the Linksys SD2008 about 2 years ago when first released and everyone is right - Loud, and unacceptable when sitting on a desk next to you. I am lucky that I built a server and placed it and all networking items in basement so it did not bother me. I did hear it when I went into basement thought. The fan started really getting loud about 3 months ago and it just died in the past week but switch is still going strong. I wanted to see it the Version 2.1 was any better than the 1.0 that I currently have. I have not switched over yet because I am waiting for other new parts but I did plug in new switch and well what do you know. TADA. No fan sounds. I dont think the newer version even have a fan in it. Its slightly better looking than original because front bezel is black instead of grey. I like that fact that the plugs are in the back compared to Netgears switches which plug into the front(which can make an unsightly mess with a lot of plugs) I have used Linksys products for many years now. With Cisco, they seem to get better every year. Give the newer 2.1 switch a try. You won't be dissappointed. See all 39 customer reviews...

Keeler Like the other reviewer, I'm disgusted that this product requires Internet Explorer 6 (version 7 doesn't either, you're out of luck if you've upgraded). This problem has been there for ages and Linksys have done nothing to correct it. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. not great, but not horrible By pcrequest I had to update firmware to get SNMP to function. My current versions: Hardware Version 00.00.03 Software Version 1.0.0.86 Firefox 2.0.0.4 and IE 7 work fine for me on Windows. No problems with uptime or reliability. Seems fast. Documentation spotty and it is hard to get advanced features to work. Support by email equally spotty. If mission critical, shop Procurve. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It's a Cisco product in a small box By T. Souslin I ordered this switch when we were overhauling our office infrastructure. It works great, allowed to identify some severe port loads and concurrency issues that caused problems before. Port mirroring for monitoring works great, the limit of 4 ports is still there, but it is expected on a switch of this class. This switch does not allow for application selection for traffic priority, as much simpler models do, but it gives an experienced user much more flexibility in setting up permissions and QoS. The only drawback, and the sole reason i gave it 4 stars, was that in an all-Mac environment we had to bring in a Windows machine to administer this switch, since it can only be managed using Internet Explorer. Firefox or Opera on windows box did not work either. So, all in all it's a great product, but would be better if it had multi-browser support for configuration purposes. Most helpful customer reviews 48 of 51 people found the following review helpful. Great home or small office true "firewall" and router. By Steven L. Umbach I have been using the Netgear FVS318 router firewall for over a month now with not one glitch. For the money, this is an amazing bargain considering it is a true SPI firewall and a certified ipsec VPN endpoint for eight tunnels included with a eight port switch! The quality of Netgear products are also commendable. We had it up and running in less than fifteen minutes. My son configured two ipsec vpn tunnels with his friends networks using Linksys VPN routers in short order and I have one configured to my Windows 2000 computer at work that is behind a nat router using Windows 2000 built in ipsec capabilities. All three of our ipsec tunnels have proven to be reliable. I also have no problems using remote desktop through port 3389 or going to my pptp Windows 2000 vpn server through port 1723 behind the FVS318.We have not experienced any of the problems that other reviewers have, but we have experience configuring these kinds of devices. The FVS318 has fairly extensive built in logging though it does not store much information itself but it can be configured to transfer log information to another computer and can even send you an email alert if certain attacks are detected. It has configurable services based on ports and protocols that are used to create port forwarding to inbound services and block outbound services. However you are limited to 16 services. It can control outbound traffic which is very important to defend against undetected trojans or users [and kids] running things like file swapping or other unapproved applications that access the internet. Internet access can be even controlled by a day/time schedule. If your network is fairly simple, a default block all rule could be created [which must be at the end of the list] and then you can specify what outbound services are allowed. It is also possible to deny a computer or address range of computers from having internet access while allowing others full access. Though the block services is a great addition to this device, it is somewhat limited if you have more than a few variations of configurations compared to a more sophisticated [and much more expensive] soho firewall, and the services can not be configured to use certain ip address/subnet destinations for outbound control which should not be a big deal for most home/small office users. However inbound services/port mapping can be configure to come from specific ip address/subnet. That is an important security feature. For instance if you open an internal computer for remote managment, you can configure the FVS318 to accept connections from only one ip address, which will keep everyone else on the internet from trying to connect and guess your password!I am very impressed with the Netgear FVS318. Being a true SPI firewall and ipsec VPN endpoint with all the other feaures it has in a quality package, I can highly recommend it to anyone that wants a bargain priced internet device that is a big step up from the consumer grade nat routers. 33 of 34 people found the following review helpful. A good, stable internal firewall By Yoshiro Aoki (NOTE: please see new info at the end of this review) I have been running several (5) FVS318 devices, all versions, on my internal network for many years now. I have found them to be stable and reliable and easy to configure. They also play well with other networking devices such as firewalls from other manufactures (as in setting up and maintaining secure internal VPN channels between them). VPN performance does falloff considerably with stricter encryption, so internally across trusted subnets and through wireless channels I move unclassified data using DES. The FVS also streams telemetry via syslog, so its easy to keep track of everything. The device, however, does not have a secure local configuration option (remote admin is

I'm a geek (I've owned more than 20 computers/servers in my >10 years as a software engineer and I've setup >10 wired/wireless networks for friends and family), so when I read all of the bad reviews on this product, I just figured it was people who couldn't figure out what they're doing. I was wrong, so wrong. The WRVS4400N is totally worthless - don't make the same mistake as I - BUY A DIFFERENT ROUTER. The problem is that every 24 hours or 36 hours (on the exact second) this router stops sharing the internet connections to all computers on the network. It must them be unplugged or rebooted via the web interface and then the problem goes away. So far their tech support has been unable to resolve the problem they keep sending me new routers. After this last one, they told me there is nothing more they can do and it will have to be reported as an issue to their product development team. My internet connection is fine as evidenced by plugging in a laptop when the router fails and they have reported no compatibility issues with my cable modem. And furthermore other people are experiencing the exact same problem. This router does offer a great set of features for the price, but be careful - they're implemented poorly. So you'll likely turn them off. The IPS (special security features that this router offers) features are worthless - if you want to FTP anything, you'll need to turn them off. And even with them off, I still can't connect to several of the FTP servers that I routinely connect to, which I could with my last router - for example Google Base FTP servers and Yahoo's webhosting accounts. The QoS (quality of service) features are extremely hard to configure and there is NO documentation on line, include with the product or in the help section of the administration tool, which explains how to actually configure it. The range of the N wireless network isn't very impressive. It's only slightly better than the G router from Linksys that it replaced. Both routers were placed in the same spot in my basement. I haven't tried the VPN connectivity yet, but you're only limited to 5 clients connecting, which is a limitation that's not published on this product description, nor easy to find on Linksys's site. Now, I've been a long time buyer and recommender of Linksys products, but in the last two years their product quality has plummeted as evidenced by the ratings they get her on Amazon. They keep sending me these survey's every time I contact their tech support and I share these same complaints, but they don't get any better. If anything they're getting worse. Linksys's phone technical support is horrible. This unit isn't serviced by the "home" area of Linksys's tech-support staff, you must go through the "business" area and their level 1 support staff aren't even trained, so you go right to their level 2 support, which you'd think would mean you'd get good support, but not from Linksys. They have no idea how to solve problems with this router. Several of the tech support people have given up and made excuses to get off the phone - my favorite was to reapply the same version of the router's firmware, waste an hour reconfiguring it, and then wait 24-36 hours to see if the problem came back; and sure enough it did. Linksys's phone customer support is horrible. After my last tech support tech's manager determined that I have yet another defective router and I should get a new one, I was transferred to their customer service department so that they could process an RMA. It took them 43 minutes to process the RMA. The customer service person, who could barely speak english, said he had to read everyone of the case notes in order to process an RMA. Then it took 24 minutes to get transferred to his supervisor to complain about him. So to reiterate my review: While this router

By Curtis Gomez I use this router on our main network of about 40 permanent users and another 20 or so users (clients) that come and go. At any one time it is negotiating 50 to 65 users via DHCP through four 24 port managed switches about ten 4 to 8 port hubs and six WAP's. Clients come and go everyday, some with Mac's others with PC's and I never have to do anything to get them on the internet. In the two years it has been in service I think that I rebooted it once and I'm not positive that it was the problem since I will reboot the modem, switches and router together. Occasionally things do get turned off for maintenance, but looking at the router admin page right now it has been running 54 days straight. I have to say it is much more stable than other small routers that advertise delivering 99 DHCP address's but really can only deliver about 10 without having to use static IP's. It's powerful browser interface lets you manage port bandwidth, port function and port priority easily. Some departments need more or less speed or higher priority. Security notifications via email keep me on top of potential attacks. The effect on speed due to security features was negligible. The "Block WAN request" even keeps our own ISP from seeing us. All these things are simple to setup. As a basic router it is very powerful. The only short coming that I see is with the load balancing. This seems to really slow the speed significantly. I think that it is just too much for the CPU to handle. My intention was to have two different ISP's for redundancy. As a fix I leave both providers connected but only activate one WAN port at a time. If one WAN goes down I can quickly activate the other WAN port without anyone really being affected. The other ISP is mainly used for FTP anyway. On the problems with VPN's, we don't use them so I can't comment on that. In closing, you could spend thousands to get some of the features that facilitate subnets and load balancing, for the price it works very well. Update: I have since purchased a second RV016 (firmware 2.0.13) with the same solid performance. I've read about some of the problems that others are having and would say that compatibility with other vendors is an issue to consider. Also using switches versus hubs takes some of the load off the routers CPU. Update 2: We now own three routers without problem. I know that some have complained about customer service and I have to agree it's lacking. But what I would tell less experienced users is that the Sitemap column on the right side of the browser interface has extensive explanations of all the settings. This combined with a little experimentation should get you where you need to be. The file sharing problems that another reviewer had has nothing to do with the router, it's all about the computer settings. Another reviewer commented on customer service asking about the color of the cables. In the early days of DSL and daisy chaining hubs, crossover cables were used and they were generally orange or yellow and will not work with most equipment. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Mixed By Leonard Barshack I have had the RV016 for a few years. Overall I am somewhat mixed. My biggest disappointment is with Linksys support. I had trouble configuring the dual WAN capabilities, and never got any help from Linksys. In the end I am using a single WAN (see below). I would expect much better, or at least some, support for an expensive router like this one. Some applications got confused when I was using two WANs. I had this problem with 2 or 3 applications, so I suspect correcting it would be straightforward, but after HOURS of fiddling and calling Linksys help, I got nowhere. The other surprise was that there is no way to be notified if one of the WANs goes down. I have dual connectivity for redundancy, but if one fails, there is no way to

Does a lot, cost a little... setup was a snap for me By truckboattruck Not sure about the other reviews, but this thing does WAY more than other switches in its price range. Yes, you need to use IE for setting it up (who doesn't have access to IE?) and it helps to read the manual (linksys forums are helpful too), but setup wasn't that difficult. Does link aggregation (Yes!), does VLANs fairly easily (once you get the hang of it - another YES!). If you are looking for a switch with 24 GigE ports that you can just plug gear into and have it just work, it'll do that. But if you've got bigger ideas in mind, it'll do those too. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very good switch for the price By D. Holland For the money this is a very, very good deal. Key reasons (and these may be more specific to me - but if you dont need these features then I dont understand why you would seek a managed switch): * Support for VLANs - huge +. Allows you to segment a number of "lans" on the switch and dynamically. * COS support - this allows you to prioritize the traffic (layer-2 only) which is equally useful. * GBIC support - if you ever want to expand the switch, and also includes support for STP protocol to sort out switch loops. * Link Aggregation for a few hundred $$? If the the browser support makes this a 1-star switch then my suggestion is to return it, and spend a lot more on an Cisco IOS switch, HP Pro-curve or Juniper switch.. plenty of support there. It is worth dinging it - but not completely. Setup for VLANs is a bit wonky, and the documentation is poor imho. Documentation that simply tells you that a feature is called "X" and the options are "A,B and C" is useless - thats what the UI is for. Documentation that states a problem domain (I want to set up two VLANs) and walks you through the steps necessary to do that on *this* switch is far more useful. Another ding. My only other complaint (for a grade) is the backup/restore process could be a little better described. A quick word of warning - this seems to be a layer-2 switch ONLY, which means you cannot route between VLANs - which is a layer-3 activity. So if you want to connect the lans you need to have a router of some sort. If you want to aggregate all the vlans and send it out a common link - then you need a routing device that understands how to sort out the traffic, and more importantly, sort return traffic back to the correct places. For me - that solution will probably be M0n0wall or PFSense.. but your needs may be very different from mine. 5 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Good idea and price but poor compatibility By Joshua S. Lucy The web interface for this product gets an F. In addition to not working with FireFox (I'm on an all Linux and Mac OS network) this switch's documentation does not say it works ONLY with Internet Explorer. This is, however, the case. This product will probably be returned and Linksys needs to learn how to define the word 'compatibility'. In addition to that I waited 45 minutes for their support line only to find one other random review on Google stating this unit actually doesn't work with FireFox. Take a lesson from every other company I've ever worked with... be compatible with non-microsoft stuff. You might be surprised. See all 4 customer reviews...

The ability to control ports and name them made organization much simple. So instead of having little stickies on the wire. Now you can tell which box it is connected to right through the Web UI. Configuration out of the box was a little retarded. Most router/switch I dealt with before once you save your preference, unplugging it would not mean resetting to factory. The switch requires you to save different profile of preferences, There is a loading preference, there is a running preference, and there is a start up preference. I guess I never had a managed or smart switch before, these might be a norm. Beyond the Web UI, this is pretty much your regular switch that requires no extra configuration. Plug a wire in and expect it to work. In my case that is not quite true. With one of my windows 7 box, there was some funky things where the port would constantly reset until I put it on Auto-Negotiation This box is actually a 26 port switch. The two side port can be used as regular or uplink ports. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great small full feature GBe Switch By Eagle One Purchased this to replace a less than reliable Netgear switch. This small, sturdy switch is a great companion to my ASA. It has POE input so you can bypass the AC Adapter, however, it does not supply POE to end devices. You need the SG200-08P (@ twice the price) for full POE functionality. I should have paid more attention but it will do for now. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Switch - Right out of the box By Lyndell L. Brown I have tested this switch with an eye to controlling broadcast/multicast storms from a looped cable (our users do this all the time) followed by a power cycling on the switch. Out of the box this small switch handled this with ease Besides all the features you may or may not use you have the option of using PoE to power this switch. If you do use PoE you won't have the AC power adapter and cord to deal with on or under your desk. I've test quite a few other manufacturers small switches (NetGear, Dell, etc) and they don't compare. I even had one switch go backwards on features in their Version 2 "improved" version (no longer could be configured to control a broadcast/multicast storm after being power cycled). This switch is a great choice. See all 4 customer reviews....

Solid Load Balancing Option By Cptrmags It's hard to find a load balancing router for a smaller business that is simple and easy to integrate into the network, provides security and the necessary backup connectivity that is beneficial to a business without breaking the bank. Recently, we purchased the Duolinks SW24 2PORT Dual Wan Load Balancing Router for less than $140. It was promptly delivered and easy to setup right out of the box. We didn't have to call in a "pro" to integrate the unit into our network. Basically, over 95% of the work our business processes require internet connectivity through portals and websites. We need a solid router that provides security as well as uninterrupted internet connectivity. This router does the job. We're using it with cable and DSL. The unit easily balances our traffic across these connections. During the few months it has been in service, at least one of the connections has had trouble or failed but with the router in place, it was a seamless blip that did not impact our business The unit "failed over" to the active connection without interrupting the network. The router is easily configured through a browser interface and has many different functions we are still learning and utilizing. It provides a good firewall for security as well as the ability to block inappropriate traffic. We're extremely happy with our choice and look forward to learning more about the router and its capabilities. All this makes it extremely affordable for the home or small to medium business that doesn't need the complicated Cisco routers and the highly paid contractors needed to install and maintain them. 14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Didn't work for me By Jeff W. Eschman I bought this router for our small office... we depend heavily on reliable internet connectivity, and have incoming cable (primary, DHCP) and DSL (backup, PPPoE) connections Setup was fairly straightforward (I'm no networking expert, but have set up 8 or 10 other routers), and we were up and running in under an hour. I didn't use load balancing, because our cable is much, much faster than the DSL... we'd rather just use that whenever it's available, and failover to the DSL only when the cable goes down. The SW24 seemed to handle link "health checks" and automatic failover just fine. Where we had problems though was on more mundane NAT routing functionality. We had frequent dropped SSL connections and browsing failures (IE "cannot load the page"). Invariably, these were momentary failures, and a browser refresh (or re-logging in to secure sites) would immediately succeed... but when it happens on an hourly basis to multiple users, it's just not tolerable. Syswan tech support was responsive and helpful, and we determined that it was most likely related to a DNS caching problem in the SW24 Passing internet DSN servers (openDNS or Level3) to our DHCP clients (instead of just giving them the router's 192.168.1.1 address as the only DNS server) reduced the frequency of dropped connections, but didn't solve the problem. Tech support suggested a new/beta firmware that allows the router's internal DNS caching to be disabled. This firmware was supposed to be emailed to me, but wasn't, and I decided I was tired of messing with it. So after fooling with this router and tolerating unstable internet connectivity for several weeks, I gave up, returned the SW24, and bought a Peplink 20L. Peplink just worked straight out of the box... much happier with it. Obviously others have had better luck with this router, but for whatever reason, it didn't work reliably in our situation. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Large dual-homed router, excellent customer support by Shane This does exactly what it claims to do, and doing well I have two Internet connections, reliable, and it lets me use the combined bandwidth. Peplink just worked straight out of the box... much happier with it. Obviously others have had better luck with this router, but for whatever reason, it didn't work reliably in our situation. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. The firmware is.
