NETGEAR's unmanaged JGS500-series switches make it affordable to take Gigabit to the desktop. These unmanaged 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet switches provide high-speed connectivity for small office networks at an economical price a savvy business owner can't ignore. All 16 or 24 switched 10/100/1000 ports deliver up to 2000 Mbps throughput, up to 48 Gbps of backplane bandwidth, and Auto Uplink¿ technology to adjust for straight-through or crossover cables. These high-performance switches can combine 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps devices within a network, and are conveniently compact for either the desktop or rack mounting. I used to (note the past tense) nearly all Linksys stuff in my house. Routers, switches, print servers, etc. More than half a dozen units because our apartment is linked to an office down everywhere. Suddenly in the course of about six months, one after another, most of the units just deceased. They had the power, but just does not pass network traffic. I wrote to Linksys and basically said, "Here is my situation, meet me half way, do something, anything to keep my business." They have never responded. So I began a quest to look for a new switch for my home office. I decided a 16-port model that I would max out an 8-port device. I noticed that the "ProSafe" line from Netgear comes with a lifetime warranty and 24 / 7 tech support (though how much support a need for an auto-sensing switch can be provided that it really works.) ) So I gravitated to this product line, and then look at the comparison charts I tried to determine the difference between the average level in the series "GS" and their top-of-the-line "JGS" series switches. There is only one: JGS models have a built-in power. Meaning, no "brick" just a standard 3-prong power cord. Sold! My only complaint (and it is significant): The fan in this little monster is quite noisy. Almost better than a standard desktop PC, which uses a much larger power supply and fan. Mind you, it does not sound "cheap". It seems to be a fan of quality and delivery. It 'just need a little ventilation needs better and to invest $ 2 extra Netgear that huge fan of the highest degree that is really quiet. So in summary, is fine for a network closet or open area with some people one other small things that make a constant noise, but think about it a little "if it is in a" quiet "office. With quiet operation, it would easily earn 5 stars in my book 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Produced by Dan M. Beadle, as promised, this is a boring class - especially for a small company with only moderate network demands. I needed a short depth form factor to fit in a rack-mount system. This unit fit. I wanted to maximize the 1 Gbps to the desktop NAS backup. This unit is delivered. I can max out the connection with Norton Ghost for Dlink NAS from my Dell desktop. There was no decrease in performance with the addition of 100 MB and 10 MB device to switch (there is not much traffic on the network). So it just comes to everyone's needs. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Netgear JGS516 Review by Lee E. It is an unmanaged gigabit switch, so there are no functions are controlled. It does its job well, actually I think the rate could be increased when I replaced my SMC Gigabit switch with this. Two things, however, the fan noise is noticeable from Heck 3 'now, my Intel quad-core computer Antec Sonata is quieter than this option. Another thing is, this option will not work if you have a bad network cabling. My old SMC switch, at least until the speed of 100 Mbit / s (4-wire required by the speed of 100MB / s are still connected properly), this function is all or nothing. No big deal, however, a good network cable to solve the problem. I've rated this 4.5 stars. See all 20 customer reviews ....
